When summer hits, people emerge from their indoor environments and spend a lot more time outdoors enjoying the fine weather. Beaches and parks become highly popular, while shorts, t-shirts and light clothing become the norm. Extra exposure to the ultraviolet (UV) rays of the sun helps the body to produce essential vitamin D, and the warmth of the sun feels good.

But too much sun can be a bad thing, and when we are over-exposed, it’s easy to get a burn. Here are few natural ways to cure sunburn :

  • Aloe Vera – You just need to cut the aloe vera leaf with a knife. The gel will ooze from it gradually. It is sticky or greasy. Take it and apply it to sunburned areas. Your skin will absorb it quietly, giving you a feeling of comfort.
  • Potato – You just need to cut a potato into different slices. Take the slices and rub gently the affected areas. You can grind some potato slices to make a paste of potatoes. Apply the potato paste to your sunburned areas and leave it for few hours until it dries completely.
  • Cucumber – Cut a cucumber into different slices. Take a few slices and grind them in a mixer grinder. Grind it properly until you receive a cucumber paste. Apply cucumber paste on your patches and leave it for 20 minutes, until the paste dries automatically. Wash them well with cool water.
  • Yogurt – Wash your hands with soap before applying yogurt directly to your burned areas. Apply it and let it stay there for at least 5 minutes until it starts working in the affected areas and bring a soothing effect. After 5-10 minutes, you can wash it off with fresh water.
  • Honey – Take adequate amount of organic honey to apply this to the affected areas of the skin. Make a thin layer of it on the skin and let it dry naturally. Wash it with cool water after 1 hour. You can repeat the process for 2-3 times in a day until you feel better.

Don’t be afraid of the sun – we all need it, and being out in sunshine not only gives us badly needed vitamin D but brightens our moods as well. Just be sure to take your sun exposure easily, starting out with 20 minutes or so the first day, and building your daily time gradually up to avoid burning.

    1. I am glad you liked it. Even after the sunburn goes away, you might see lasting effects on your skin, such as fine lines, wrinkles, or solar lentigines, colloquially known as sunspots. All these markings more commonly develop after repeated exposure to the sun. If you notice these changes, applying a topical retinoid (a class of chemical compounds derived from vitamin A) like Retin-A could help, Feely says. This type of ointment remodels the skin’s collagen and blocks the production of the skin pigment melanin, which helps make sunspots fade.
