Constipation cuts across the board but is usually more common in women than in men due to hormones. When we experience constipation, it is usually annoying and uncomfortable feeling ever. Due to unhealthy diets and poor lifestyle, it has become more common because of the use of  laxatives.

Before running to the pharmacy for over the counter medication, here are some natural and available ways to relieve constipation that actually work :

  • Water : It helps in making the stool consistency ideal for passing out with ease.
  • Flax Seeds : Prevents constipation and various other digestive issues.
  • Peppermint Oil : It can reduce colon spasms and ease bloat and indigestion to relax the intestinal muscles.
  • Prunes : Prunes can increase the stool consistency and frequency.
  • Ginger Tea : It works as a mild appetite stimulant that aids in strengthening your stomach.
  • Olive Oil : Olive oil can help you in efficient bowel cleansing.
  • Peppermint Tea : The active ingredient menthol can help the muscles in the digestive tract relax.
  • Coffee : Promotes peristalsis (coordinated contraction and relaxation of intestinal muscles).
  • Chia Seeds : It can pass through your gut or intestine undigested.

  1. All of these are good to try. What I have found that works for me the best is Epsom salt. 3 tbl spoons in 2 oz of very warm water. Drink real fast on an empty stomach. It taste real bad. But it works. After you drink this then drink something very warm or not like tea or coffee. But don’t go anywhere for the rest of the day.

  4. Garima – Great post and an important one. Adding a few more suggestions – a handful of Raisins first thing in the morning or last thing before going to sleep works very well and “bhuna hua chana” or roasted Bengal gram works as well. Besides bananas, sweet lime (Mausambi) has loads of potassium that helps with bowel movement. All Fruits are natural cleansers so having a fruit before food does the job usually.
