There is a growing amount of evidence that body image dissatisfaction is high and on the increase and is associated with a number of damaging consequences for health and wellbeing. Body image dissatisfaction is seen to undermine self-confidence, contribute to depression, and lead to the onset of a range of physical, emotional and societal problems. Promoting positive body image is fundamental to addressing other social and public health problems facing young people.

Here are some ways in which you can boost your body confidence today :

  • Exercise. Give that body the chance to do what it’s meant to do – to move and to feel alive. Just 10 minutes of good and challenging exercise will make you feel better in and about your body.
  • Eat light and eat more fruits and vegetables. Overeating has never made anyone feel confident or happy.
  • Be Vain. Don’t judge other for using make up, painting their nails or dressing in a way you might not like. Focus on you. Is this what you want to wear? Will a little make up make you feel more confident? Even if you don’t leave your house today. It’s about seeing yourself as someone who take care of herself and deserves it.
  • Fix your posture. Posture makes the biggest difference in the way you see yourself and the way people see you. Like exercise it helps you connect with your body and actually stay clear and feel good.
  • Hydrate. This simple habit will make you feel lighter, cleaner and like you have more energy. You’ll also have less cravings and your skin will be smoother.
  • Name one thing you love about your body! Your body does a LOT of work, even when you’re sitting lazy on the couch. Give that body a little appreciation.
  • Remember this. Your body is the only thing you have. You can lose your money, clothes, everything, but the one things that stays as long as you are here is your body. It’s a lifelong friend.

Research shows that you can change your body image without changing your appearance. Have you ever gone on a diet and lost weight, bought new clothes, got a new hairstyle or had cosmetic surgery and still not felt good about your looks? This suggests that it is your body image that needs fixing – not your body.

    1. I am glad you liked it Shaily. Confidence comes from feelings of well-being, acceptance of your body and mind (your self-esteem) and belief in your own ability, skills and experience. Confidence is an attribute that most people would like to possess. Thank you for stopping by.

    1. Thank you Kritika. Low-confidence can be a result of many factors including: fear of the unknown, criticism, being unhappy with personal appearance (self-esteem), feeling unprepared, poor time-management, lack of knowledge and previous failures. Often when we lack confidence in ourselves it is because of what we believe others will think of us. Perhaps others will laugh at us or complain or make fun if we make a mistake. Thinking like this can prevent us from doing things we want or need to do because we believe that the consequences are too painful or embarrassing.

    1. Hi, glad you liked the post. If you believe that you can achieve something then you are likely to work hard to make sure you do if, however, you don’t believe that you can accomplish a task then you are more likely to approach it half-heartedly and therefore be more likely to fail. The trick is convincing yourself that you can do something – with the right help, support, preparedness and knowledge.

    1. Thank you Lianne. Glad you liked it. Let’s be honest: we’re our own worst critics. We can easily think of ways we’re “failing” at life. After all, you didn’t get all of the dishes done, your clothes are lying on the floor, you forgot to pick something up from the store, you missed a deadline… Whatever the reason, it’s easy to find a way to get yourself down. Believe me, I’ve done it so many times. You need to give yourself a break! You’re awesome, lady.

    1. I agree. I often say this to my friends that If you’ve ever found yourself knee-deep in someone’s Instagram or Facebook, obsessing over how perfect their life, job, boyfriend, body, style, or whatever is, don’t fret. Everyone falls into that rabbit hole at some point. But, keep this in mind the next time you’re on Instagram and getting into your “her life is so much better than mine” mindset: Social media is an amazing tool to use for inspiration. It shouldn’t be a platform that breeds self-hate and feeds into your insecurities.

    1. Thank you Vihani. I am glad you agree with the points in my post. We are called a narcissistic generation. We are told that technology and social media are giving us an inflated sense of self. But most of us don’t walk around feeling like we are all that great. In fact, there is one underlying emotion that overwhelmingly shapes our self-image and influences our behavior, and that is insecurity. If you could enter the minds of people around you, even the narcissistic ones, you’re likely to encounter ceaseless waves of insecurity. A recent survey found that 60 percent of women experience hurtful, self-critical thoughts on a weekly basis. Needless to say after such stats we need to improve confidence and boost it ourselves everyday.

    1. Thank you Mary. I am glad you liked the post and agree with. The struggle for approval is an empty victory at best and confidence eroding/soul-crushing at worst. The quest is insatiable and can be spotted a mile away by employees who are instead looking for role-models of self-belief. This is something I had to work on in my previous work days, which I did so by constantly reminding myself to strive for authenticity over approval.

    1. Thank you Divya. I am glad you liked it. There are so many things we can do to boost our confidence everyday. Visualize yourself as you want to be. Affirm yourself. Do one thing that scares you every day. Question your inner critic. Take the 100 days of rejection challenge. Set yourself up to win. Help someone else. Care for yourself.

    1. Yes Harley. Low self-esteem often begins in childhood. Stress and difficult life events, such as serious illness or a bereavement, can have a negative effect on self-esteem. Personality can also play a part. Some people are just more prone to negative thinking, while others set impossibly high standards for themselves.
