Tips For Healthy Eyes

Vision is the most precious of our senses. You see the splendor of a sunset, you see the smile on the face of someone you love and you see the innocence in the eyes of a child. Mother Nature has made certain that this sense is perfectly developed as we grow up.

Here are tips for healthy eyes so that you can look, see and feel better :

  • Schedule Eye Exams for Your Whole Family : A comprehensive eye exam can detect serious problems, like diabetes, before you even know they exist.
  • Wear Sunglasses : Sunglasses protect your eyes from the sun’s UV rays, which can be dangerous even on cloudy days.
  • Rest Your Eyes : Reset you eyes once every 20 minutes for 20 seconds while on your cell phone, tablet or computer, to help prevent eye strain.
  • If you Smoke, Quit : Smoking increases your risk of cataracts and sight-threatening eye diseases.
  • Be Active : Regular exercise can delay the onset of age-related macular degeneration (the leading cause of permanent vision loss later in life).
  • Eat Your Greens : A diet rich in fruits, leafy greens and omega-3 fatty acids can help reduce your risk of dry eyes, macular degeneration, glaucoma and more.
  • Drinks Lots of Water : Without Enough water, you can’t produce enough tears to keep your eyes moist and nourished.

It’s important to take care of your eyes. Poor vision makes it harder to read, drive, and cook. The good news: Many eye problems and diseases can be
treated if caught early. To make sure you keep seeing clearly, get a comprehensive dilated eye exam. An eye care professional will examine your eyes for signs of vision problems or eye diseases. It’s the best way to find out if you need glasses or contacts, or are in the early stages of a serious but treatable eye disease.

  4. So true, food habits and lifestyle do have an impact. Taking care of eyes are must and most underrated. I use anti glare at work to avoid stress to the eyes. It’s effective.

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Yes Manohar. Anti glare is good. Anti-reflective coating (also called “AR coating” or “anti-glare coating”) improves vision, reduces eye strain and makes your eyeglasses look more attractive. These benefits are due to the ability of AR coating to virtually eliminate reflections from the front and back surfaces of your eyeglass lenses. Thank you for stopping by my blog again.

Thank you Jude for such encouraging words. I am glad you found these solutions easy and doable. But by finding positive, healthy ways to manage stress as it occurs, many of these negative health consequences can be reduced. Everyone is different, and so are the ways they choose to manage their stress. Some people prefer pursuing hobbies such as gardening, playing music and creating art, while others find relief in more solitary activities: meditation, yoga and walking. Ouch…need to began to rest the eyes every 20 minutes. It is amazing how the absence of water reveals itself even through our eyes, as well. It does make a difference. Thanks for sharing 😊

You are most welcome. I am glad you found this post useful. Dry eye occurs when there are insufficient tears to nourish the eye, and tears are necessary for providing clear vision. Tears wash away foreign matter in the eye and help reduce the risk of eye infections. Symptoms of dry eyes include irritation, excess watering, blurred vision and feeling foreign matter in the eye. As a symptom of dehydration, the best treatment for dry eye is rehydrating by drinking plenty of water. Eye drops can also help alleviate the symptoms by lubricating the eye and washing away foreign materials.

I am glad you are in agreement. Healthy brain function needs healthy eyesight. The brain is our most vital organ, allowing us to live complex lives. Considering that your optic nerve connects your eyes and your brain, a healthy codependent relationship is necessary. By keeping your eyes healthy, you keep your brain healthy improving your overall quality of life. Thank you for stopping by.

Smoking has long been known to cause heart disease and lung cancer; however many people don’t realize that smoking can lead to vision loss. Studies show smoking increases the risk of age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy and Dry Eye Syndrome. One way to reduce the risk of developing AMD is by NOT smoking which you always have…yayyyyy. You have already won the battle…chill. Thank you for stopping by my blog today. Hope I didn’t torture you much πŸ˜›

You didn’t torture me, now IΒ΄m depressed. I’ve been smoking since I was 10 years old. Although I have to say that at that age my late grandfather started smoking and he passed away at the age of 70 something, and it wasn’t for lung cancer and his eye site was pretty good since he did realize that there where cigarettes missing from his pack….and then I got the whack in the butt or head.
I do have a solution for quitting smoking, you get the kid at age 10 and you make him smoke a pack of cigarettes until he vomits, that way he will be so traumatize that he will never touch a cigarette. See? We should get together I would be a great health coach…. πŸ˜‰
        Have a great day.

Hi Crystal, thank you. I am glad you liked these tips. What staring at a screen all day does to your brain and body. Most Americans spend more than seven hours a day staring at digital screens. But screens are changing our bodies and possibly our brains. This screen time often leads to blurred vision, eye strain, and long-term vision problems like nearsightedness.
