Kindness has to do with what is tenderest and most intimate in us. It is an aspect of our nature that we often do not express fully especially men in our culture, but also women because we are afraid that if this vulnerable side comes to light, we might suffer, be offended, ridicule, or exploited. We will find, rather, that we suffer by not expressing it.

Lets look at the benefits of kindness scientifically

It Increase

  • It increases Oxytocin, which is often referred to as the love hormone.
  • It increases energy.
  • It increases happiness.
  • It increases our life span.
  • It increases pleasure.
  • It increases serotonin which calms you down and makes you happy.

It Decreases

  • It decreases pain by releasing endorphins.
  • It decreases stress with the decrease of cortisol levels.
  • It decreases anxiety.
  • It decreases depression with the releases of more serotonin.
  • It decreases blood pressure with the increase of oxytocin that releases nitric oxide which dilates the blood vessels

Kindness is a way of making less effort. It is the most economic attitude there is, because it saves us much energy that we might otherwise waste in suspicion, worry, resentment, manipulation, or unnecessary defence. It is an attitude that, by eliminating the inessential, brings us back to the simplicity of being.

    1. Thank you. I am glad you liked it. Kindness matters because it makes you happy. A simple act of kindness can turn a bad day into a good day. Happiness is spread through each and every one of us. By taking the time to help others, we not only give them a better day, but their satisfaction and gratitude can make ours better as well.

  2. Kindness is a power tool that can fix the broken and heal the sad. Kindness doesn’t cost a thing and it lifts the positive energy and will affect people that comes in contact with it.

    1. Namaste. Yes, kindness can fix anything. More importantly it’s good for the mind and body both.

    2. According to Dr. David R. Hamilton, acts of kindness create emotional warmth, which releases a hormone known as oxytocin. Oxytocin causes the release of a chemical called nitric oxide, which dilates the blood vessels. This reduces blood pressure and, therefore, oxytocin is known as a “cardioprotective” hormone.

      1. Exactly 🙂 most people probably know it as the happy hormone. Stress and fear create the opposite that releases Adrenaline and cortisol, that will cause physical problems in the long run. To be short: Do good is to feel good.

  3. Unfortunately, I think kindness can be snuffed out if we have been badly hurt – and then move into self-protection mode. However, it is part of what makes us human. And, as you say, we benefit ourselves if we are kind. We don’t only enrich the lives of others.

    1. Yes we are all a work in progress anyways, learning everyday, improvising everyday. Kindness has many benefits including increased happiness and a healthy heart. It slows down the aging process and improves relationships and connections, which indirectly boosts your health. People believe kindness is particular to those of religious faith because of their moral vows. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

  4. Being Kind shows what kind of a person one is, despite his/her upbringing. A trait that’s being hardly found.

    1. Right Manohar. To me, “kind” is very different. Kind means connecting; it means being conscious and intentional about the impact my words or actions may have; it means expending energy and effort and caring about the outcome. It also means suspending judgments and accepting people as they are. Kind can be messy and may take me to places where I am awkward, clumsy, and tongue-tied. Kindness requires me to take a risk. Kindness requires me to be vulnerable.

      1. Totally agreed Garima. Kindness at times can be taken as vulnerable by people, just because we’re being kind. Also, it makes us succumb to the situation. So, I feel we need to draw a line and not let people barge in beyond that “space”

      2. Ah yes healthy boundaries. And when we don’t set boundaries, we often become resentful and angry – which isn’t good for us or our relationships. Boundaries communicate our needs and expectations – and it’s kind, not selfish, to tell others how you want to be treated, what you need, and what you expect.

      3. Like that “Healthy Boundaries”. Yep. Kind and selfish are different. Most of them misinterpret. I see a relationship advisor as well, apart from a doctor, blogger, and maybe something else which is under wraps 🙂

      7. Agree Garima. Is it living in Grey? I doubt. To me, it’s either black or white. Somewhere, both black and white amalgamate and turn grey forming a secondary color in life. Random philosophy 🙂

      9. It is, indeed tedious to live. Of course, I pass through daily and everybody does. But I tell myself. It’s the order and ordeal of life. Deal with it. Complain only, if you can bring change. Else leave as is.

    1. Yes Francis. More often than not, it is viewed as weakness. Often times, being kind is viewed as a weakness. Whether it is being kind to ourselves, or being kind to those around us. There is a misconception that we have push ourselves harder so that we can get more out of life. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts.

  9. That’s so cool- but if there are so many benefits of kindness, why do some people choose to be mean?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Ah Edas, we are all on our own journeys, fighting our own thoughts and demons. We just have to not get affected when people are mean because they will be. We often don’t understand where the other person is coming from and honestly we don’t have to because then our energies get affected. All we can do is protect ourselves by not getting affected, not not expecting, by building resilience. Believe me, I am a work in progress in building resilience myself 🙂

    1. Glad you liked it Mahi. Research by Elizabeth Dunn at the University of British Columbia found that people given $50 who spend it on others are happier at the end of the day than people who spend it on themselves. The same goes for a work bonus of a few thousand dollars – even though, beforehand, people say they’d much prefer to spend the money on themselves. We are even happier when we remember buying things for others than when we remember buying things for ourselves. And the more generous we are in general – the more money we spend on gifts and donations – the happier we tend to be.
