Natural Hypothyroidism Remedies

The major function of the thyroid gland is to control the rate of metabolism. The principle function of thyroxine (thyroid hormone) is to act as a catalyst of oxidative metabolism in most tissues. Cells in the body take their ‘cue’ from thyroxine. The amount of stimulation the cells receive from thyroxine will determine how ‘quickly’ they perform their functions. Hypothyroidism results from inadequate production of thyroid hormone. Any structural or functional defects of thyroid gland that significantly impairs its output of hormones will lead to the hypo metabolic state of hypothyroidism.

Here are certain natural ways of managing hypothyroidism :

  • Ashwagandha (500 mg daily) – Ashwagandha helps lower cortisol and balance T4 levels.
  • Iodine (150-300 mcg daily)- For 10% of people the mineral iodine can resolve thyroid dysfunction. This should not be taken with Hashimoto’s disease.
  • Selenium (200 mcg daily) – Selenium is necessary for the production of the T3 thyroid hormone.
  • L-Tyrosine (500 mg twice daily) – An amino acid used in the syntheses of thyroid hormones.
  • Fish Oil (1000 mg daily) – Essential fatty acids found in fish oil are critical for thyroid function.
  • Vitamin B complex (One capsule daily) – Vitamin B12 and thiamine are important for neurological function and hormonal balance.
  • Probiotic Supplement (50 billion CFU per serving) – Probiotics can help heal the gut and aid in nutrient absorption while reducing inflammation.
  • Frankincense Essential Oil (Five parts lemongrass oil and give parts clove oil) – Rub these directly on the thyroid, which is located at the front lower part of your neck.
  • Lemongrass and Myrrh Essential Oils (2-4 drops) – Try rubbing directly on the thyroid area along with the reflexology points on the feet (big toes) and on the wrists multiple times per day.

  1. I have added a daily probiotic supplement to my diet and am happy with the results so far. It’s been about two months now.

    1. That is a best decision you have made for your gut. When first using probiotics, some people experience gas, bloating, or diarrhea. Changes in the gut microbiota can result in bacteria producing more gas than usual, which can lead to bloating. However, these side effects usually clear up within a few days or weeks of taking the probiotics.

      1. True. At first, I did deal with those side effects. I think the toxins are out of my system now.
