When you were born, you didn’t come with an owner’s manual; these guidelines make life work better.

  • You will receive a body – You may like it or not, but it will be yours for the entire period round.
  • You will learn lessons – You are enrolled in a full time, informal school called life. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant and stupid.
  • There are no mistakes, only lessons – Growth is a process of trial and error, experimentation. The “failed” experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiment that ultimately works.
  • A lesson is reported until it is learned – A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it, then you can go on the next lesson.
  • Learning lessons does not end – There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.
  • “There” is no better than “Here” – When your “there” has become “here”, you will simply obtain another “there” that will, again look better than “here”.
  • Others are merely mirrors of you – You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.
  • What you make of your life is upto you – You have all the tools and resources you need, what you do with them is up to you. The choice is yours.
  • The answers lie inside of you – The answers to life’s questions lie inside you. All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

    1. “External conditions mirror internal conditions, so straightening your room settles internal disorder” affirms authors Charlene Belitz and Meg Lundstrom in, The Power of Flow: Practical Ways to Transform Your Life with Meaningful Coincidence.
If you agree the world is volatile, you will look for evidence to substantiate this. You might tune into the news and hear of unfortunate incidents that confirm your beliefs.

    1. To sum it up, the list succinctly explains that in life, no one is given a handbook. There is no definitive guide to show us the “right” road.
It is up to us to seek out and recognise our opportunities to grow. If we want to evolve as a human we must learn from life’s lessons – and remember that we are constantly learning, yet how we apply the knowledge we gain us up to each individual.

    1. What I love about the ten rules it is that it’s a gentle reminder of both why we are here, and how to relax into the experience of being human rather than struggling and fighting against it. It’s a spiritual chat sheet.

    1. All you have to do is walk forward with a positive outlook, and trust that God has a plan that is greater than the one we have. They already understand what being human is a roller coaster ride of emotions.

    1. Glad you liked the post. One of the key characteristics that makes us human appears to be that we can think about alternative futures and make deliberate choices accordingly. Creatures without such a capacity cannot be bound into a social contract and take moral responsibility.

    1. Thank you. I am glad you liked the post. When we first stand up and speak up for ourselves or someone else, it’s usually it out of anger, injustice, or hate. We’re tired of the same thing happening, so we protest. We speak our truths. We fight, but when time passes, we don’t continue to fight because of hate. Hate doesn’t fuel us; it’s not a motivator. It’s love that does that.

  9. Utterly and absolutely true. Brilliantly said. Like it is. Get rid of that entitlement syndrome, ye weaklings!

    1. Yes, you can also use Use cognitive restructuring. Take any of the entitlement tendencies you can relate to and consider alternative evidence and perspectives. For example, what are some reasons the same rules that apply to everyone else should also apply to you? What are some reasons why keeping peace and avoiding upsetting or offending people (unless absolutely necessary) is a virtue? What are some examples of how people are generally more generous to you than you are to them?

    1. Humans by comparing themselves to nature around them, they can detect their natural connection to the animal world with which they share most of their vital functions. They also have realized that they are unique and emerging over the rest of the natural world. Human beings are the subject of a specific phenomenology which belongs to them only, and whose origin raises critical questions when considered in the context of their habitat, of the Earth, and in the larger sense of things; the universe.

    1. Humans are unusual animals by any stretch of the imagination. Our special abilities, from big brains to opposable thumbs, have allowed us change our world dramatically and even leave the planet. There are also odd things about us that are, well, just special in relation to the rest of the animal kingdom.

  12. Well said. We all look to blame someone or some thing for what happens to us in life. The truth is we only need look in the mirror to find the answer to our problems. Stay well.

    1. A ‘blamer’ is a type of narcissist (meaning they have an inflated sense of self) who, in their own eyes, can do no wrong. Everything that happens wrong around or to them, whether their own fault or not, is immediately blamed on the other people in their life.

  15. The first point I try to reiterate to Husband – we only have this one shell to live in while we are here, so we need to look after it so the time we spend in it is as good and comfortable as possible.

    1. Yes I agree with you. It is one of the most important tenet of life. Your capability of having a great time and making lasting memories is not contingent on losing weight. Give your body the opportunity to experience soothing touch. Take a bubble bath, get a massage and hug people you feel comfortable hugging. Every body craves and deserves soothing touch. Honor your hunger.
