A new year is always a great opportunity to start fresh and make your goals happen; to get inspired and make changes to your lifestyle for the better. New Year’s resolutions can vary greatly, but they are all about achieving something that will have a positive impact in your life. Whatever your goal is – the important thing is that you are on the right path to achieve it.

Here are few tips to help you stick to your New Year resolutions and maximize your chances of not giving up :

  • Don’t think resolution think more in terms of what positive new habit you want to integrate into your life.
  • Focus one resolution at a time. For example, focus on one new habit you want to develop every month for the next 12 months.
  • Think small, manageable, realistic steps that are quantifiable you are more likely to fail at a super general goal.
  • Publicise your goals, to your family, friends, the internet etc. Share your progress with them. Even better make it a group goal with your partner/family/friend.
  • Quantify what exactly you want to accomplish/where you want to be upon completion. Be as specific as possible.
  • Enforce regular deadlines for sub-goals so you are always on track.
  • Be sure to reward yourself with positive feedback when you are making strong headway with your goals.
  • Schedule weekly/monthly/quarterly reviews for your own progress so you don’t forget about your resolutions by February.
  • Write down your own internal motivation for accomplishing your goal and why the resolution is important to you.
  • Anticipate self sabotage with strategies for overcoming them.
  • Keep a win journal where you lost personal accomplishments to remind yourself of the progress you are making.
  • Focus on what you are gaining not what you are depriving yourself of.

      1. For now:

        1. 1000 followers- that’s my goal for 2020, but don’t think I will get there. About 50 short

        2. Once 1000 hits, change plans

        3. I am thinking of changing the theme of my blog: from primarily a musical theatre blog to a book/musical theatre blog

      3. Well- the only problem with transitioning to a book/musical blog is my knowledge of books.

My knowledge of books is quite silm compared to musicals

      5. In some ways, my book has become that book/musical theatre blog- but not really in a way. My blog became a lot of bookish this year- that is where the idea of combing book and musical theatre. I noticed a lot recently that my most recent followers just happened to be bookworms

Books was already a major topic on my blog- but wasn’t a book blog. Musical Theatre was still the main topics.

      7. Sometimes- I actually do underestimate myself- but not all the time. Doesn’t help if you have a tiny comfort zone.

  2. Kia Knows Better

This is a very helpful post. I usually overwhelm myself by making a lot goals that are hard to stick to. I’m learning now to break them down into shorter and more achievable goals.

    1. Most of us are guilty of going grand in the beginning Kia. Breaking big goals down into small goals seem to help.

  3. Small, manageable steps are so key! Many people look at a big goal and refuse to take daily steps in achieving them because their individual tasks are too big. They underestimate the small, consistent bit.

I have finished quite a few books just with a diet of 250 words a day, so I say amen to just taking the steps! Thanks for this post 🙂

    1. True. Make resolutions that you think you can keep. If, for example, your aim is to exercise more frequently, schedule three or four days a week at the gym instead of seven. If you would like to eat healthier, try replacing dessert with something else you enjoy, like fruit or yogurt, instead of seeing your diet as a form of punishment.

    1. That is an excellent idea. Gratitude Journaling Is Good For Your Mental Health And Maybe Physical Health To : Shots – Health News A growing body of research shows keeping a log of what you are thankful for can lower stress, help you sleep better, and may even reduce the risk of heart disease.

  5. About publicising your goals; I’ve come across different walks of life where many people think that when people know (too many of them) there might be some who are “plotting against you”. You know that feeling that people are waiting to see if you’ll actually succeed (which means waiting to see how long it will take before you fail) and they just doubt you and it becomes hurtful when it comes from people close to you. What are your thoughts on that?

May I feature this post in my next blog about the New Year and making plans for it.

    1. I agree with you. You need to be ruthlessly selective, because everyone in your core group also has an inner circle with which you will ultimately be connected, and those people will have an inner circle, and so on.
