Welcome fellow souls to « The Human Family Crash Course Series, » a new project collaborated together by empress2inspire.blog and sensispirit.wordpress.com. Together we will be working on a different topic for each crash course; our second topic is focused on «How To Thrive In 2021.» Each topic will have eight posts with posts on Mondays and Thursdays. We hope you enjoy our series and we look forward to knowing how our posts have inspired you!

2020, What a year we have had, Phew! Moving on, the purpose of this post is to congratulate you for surviving 2020 and to give you hope and inspiration for 2021. Looking after our minds has never been more important than today and by that I mean controlling our reactions to stressors and managing anxiety better, spending time alone with our thoughts, cultivating resilience or simply becoming our true authentic selves.

So here goes your mantra for a healthy and happy 2021

  • Spend Time Alone with your Thoughts – The number one problem why people are struggling these days is technology. One of the negative things that technology has done is taken away our downtime and our privacy. There was a time when we were younger, we had to go out of our houses to find something creative to do just out of boredom. The amount of energy that one had to exude to imagine or figure out what to do with our time was extraordinary. Kids now have to exert even more energy to not be distracted to find boredom, to find stillness. It cannot be overrated how profound that is and how it will change the course of humanity. So make a point to spend 30 minutes with yourself, if it gets too overwhelming, let it, sit through it, journal it but stay out for 30 minutes by yourself. Believe me it’s nerve wracking but worth it for your happiness and emotional health.
  • Use Criticism as a Gift – People create an identity without realising it. Your ideal identity is that of a learner, anything else is fragile. When somebody tries to hurt you, they will almost always start with something real, so they come at you with the thing you are most insecure about. The triggering is the psychological immune system which is beneficial because people with the highest levels of self delusion also report the highest levels of happiness. If you flip your mindset to say that my identity is not as a vegan, or a writer but of a learner, that’s the only thing I value myself for. Learning is powerful and real and so that is the only thing that can protect you from getting hurt when someone criticizes you. Leaning lowers your psychological immune system and protects yourself from the core.
  • Stop Holding Yourself Back, Set Fear Aside – There is a poverty in uniformity. When we have a central idea about what good looks like or what enough looks like and everybody is moving to that common ground, it strips us from the richness of everything we are, in spirit. We have to trim off all the unlikely edges, where the awesomeness is. So don’t perform in your life, live it. Live it the way you want to, not how others want you to be. If you can unpack more of fact, mental freedom is on the other side of it. It is not about the resignation of trying to find your best potential, but it is about using your talent as best you can. You are good enough as a human being, own it.

Hope this helped you get some perspective in life. Have a amazing year ahead.

    1. Glad you are inspired. Be chancy. Take small risks in new situations instead of predicting negative outcomes before giving them a try. “If I ask for a shot at the promotion, my boss might laugh in my face” becomes “If I ask for a shot at the promotion, my boss might think I have guts and ambition.” How can you stick your neck out at work in the new year?

      1. Just take the risk. It is better to try, than not try at all. Thanks

    1. Thank you. Glad you liked the post. Practice gratitude. Look beyond the fear, loss and disappointment at the big picture. Take an inventory of your life and include all the things the pandemic prevented you from doing that you once took for granted. And consider all the people and things in your life that you’re grateful for, letting gratitude steer you beyond the gloom and doom. What are you grateful for?

    1. Thank you. Glad you liked the article. Focus on the upside of a downside situation. When there are so many incidences of devastation, fear and heartbreak, it’s natural to focus on the downside of the pandemic. But we can balance that out with how it’s brought people together, volunteering and helping one another and strengthening the whole idea of collective selflessness. What upsides can you name?

      1. Well.. talking about the pandemic one upside is that is had enabled the use of technology like anything. Be it for shopping or learning all are now at ease with the online medium. Another aspect is that the pandemic gave some good ‘me-time’ in the sense of time for oneself. And not to forget how is has revealed the inner strength of humanity. Stories of community kitchens for the poor, the dedicated cadre of health care workers all show the inherent goodness in humans. That’s an upside too. I think in many ways the pandemic has also redefined our notions of development. That’s also a good thing. Future policies on growth would be more inclusive and humane.

    1. Thank you for such kind words. Frame 2020 as a lesson to learn, not misery to endure. Ask what you can learn from the difficulties of 2020 and use them as stepping-stones, instead of roadblocks. Think of the adversities of 2020 as happening for you instead of to you. If you consider this perspective less taken, what has 2020 taught you that you can take into 2021?
