We’ve all been taught from a young age to fit in a little regular exercise. You know it’s good for both your body and your mind. But when your day gets busy, it’s too easy to skip. When you get out of the daily habit, it’s hard to pick it back up. It’s true, there are real road blocks to exercising, and lack of time is just one of them. But you can get through these road blocks and fit exercise into your day — at home or at the office.

Working out at home

You don’t need much to workout in your home — just some floor space and a few items. Here are a few tips:

  • For strength training: Use a set of dumbbells, resistance bands, kettlebells or even your own body weight.
  • For resistance training: You don’t need equipment to do exercises like pushups and crunches — just yourself. Keep a focus on changing up your routine. For training ideas, search online for at-home workouts.
  • For aerobic activity: Try walking, jogging, running, riding a bike, playing tennis, swimming laps or playing basketball.
  • For turnkey workouts: Try an app like Sworkit, which lets you customize and play video workouts on your mobile device.

It’s easy to work out anywhere at home. You might even find yourself exercising while doing everyday household tasks, such as:

  • Washing and waxing a car
  • Vacuuming and cleaning
  • Gardening
  • Raking leaves
  • Shovelling snow

Come back tomorrow to learn about how to workout in the office. Till then here’s an article on ways in which you exercise everyday > https://empress2inspire.blog/2021/02/15/keep-exercise-on-your-todo-list-part-1/

    1. Ah yes rightly said Kritika. It increases heart rate, which pumps more oxygen to the brain. It aids the release of hormones which provide an excellent environment for the growth of brain cells. Exercise also promotes brain plasticity by stimulating growth of new connections between cells in many important cortical areas of the brain

  3. Right now, shoveling SNOW is my workout!! Lots of ice under it here in Lexington makes for an energetic workout! 😰
If I die of a heart attack shoveling the pure white stuff, tell everyone “He died happy!” 😉

    1. Hahahah may you have the best of health. For anyone that has shoveled snow, you know it can be a workout! Pushing and throwing that wet, heavy snow can be comparable to a weight-lifting session or even an aerobic workout on the treadmill. According to LiveStrong, an average person can burn 223 calories per 30 minutes while shoveling snow.

  4. Yes! household chores can definitely be a workout. As I’m transitioning to keep the things I love (gave up on being a minimalist), purging spaces and rearranging furniture has proven to be as intense as a day at the gym.

    1. One of the world’s largest studies on physical activity has found that doing household chores can be just as effective as running or working out when it comes to cutting your risk of heart disease and extending your life.

  5. I like that you included activities to do around the house as exercise. It’s helpful to not look at exercise as something you do only at the gym or if you put on running shoes. Activity can be so much more than those.

    1. Thank you Kellie. We should find innovative ways to incorporate exercise into our lives. Regular physical activity can improve your muscle strength and boost your endurance. Exercise delivers oxygen and nutrients to your tissues and helps your cardiovascular system work more efficiently. And when your heart and lung health improve, you have more energy to tackle daily chores.

Great ideas, when we were in lock down last year I couldn’t go to the gym. I only did pushups, crunches and pullups/chin ups👍🏼
