Welcome to the Daily Dose of Self Love. This series will be about self love, self care, self esteem and self worth. Basically everything related with SELF. My aim with this series is to give you a daily boost of self love and self care. We all get busy with our lives and sometimes it leaves us less or no time to take time for ourselves, be with ourselves, wash off all the negativity that we accumulated during the day with self love, meditation, etc. The daily boost will be in an easy to understand and more importantly something which is relatable. So Welcome!!

Self Love Practice Tip #108

In today’s post we will continue to talk about how to stop comparing yourself to others. Looks can be deceiving. So we tend to have this belief that people who look good must be joyful, they must have happy joyful families. It is time to challenge that thought process. Just because a person looks happy on the outside or on social media, it is impossible to know what anyone may be thinking or feeling on the inside. The social media profiles may contain bright and happy pictures but a lot of time people may actually be going through a personal hell but still trying to show otherwise, after all not everyone wants to wash their dirty linen in public. Everyone has to go through tough obstacles in life, they are necessary for our growth process. There is a sense of vulnerability which no one is comfortable with while sharing your deepest feelings on a daily basis. It is good to share with others and be real but even for me I do not put everything out there and people don’t see what I go through sometimes quite frequently. Even when I am out everyone says that I am a cheerful person but they don’t see the other part of me which is sad and angry. You will see that someone who seems to have their life together and even say that all the time but no body has their life together all the time…haha. And that’s Okay. Yes there are people who are responsible and get their shit done but like I say they may be going through shit and we have to try to atleast understand that. We all have different levels of resilience and a kind word to someone does not harm anyone.

Come back tomorrow for more inspiration.

    1. Glad you liked the post. “Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” ~Unknown

We are all on a mission to be the best we can be, to be happy, to have the perfect house, family, partner, and job. To complete our to-do list, to complete out bucket list, to make our parents proud, to get promoted, earn more money, and be successful.

Life can often feel like a never-ending treadmill, going quickly in the wrong direction. As we run faster to try to progress down this path, the goal becomes more elusive.

Are we setting ourselves up to fail in this quest for the perfect life? And will it even result in our one main aim: happiness?

I’m beginning to think that our quest for success and happiness is, in fact, the main reason we are unhappy.

  1. I believe we are unhappy because we do not seem to realise the importance of many things in life, we aren’t happy with things we have because we always want more, and in the desire to have more we loose out on the good and happy parts of life! The sad thing about our generation is we are so broken, we need to get high to stay happy, and that’s pathetic!

    1. Social Media. I see a lot of people mentioning this and I agree. Imagine seeing nothing but perfection everyday. How about ads that entice you to shop? How about a constant flow of bad news and a network for people to say things about you online that they wouldnt say to your face out of fear of being slapped. I use to have FB, I havent logged on in over a year. It was too much to process. I am currently weaning myself off of Instagram.

      1. I completely agree! Though social media has its advantages, still it does mentally affect a person quite a lot! I have been trying to stay away from Instagram since a month now, it’s hard but I am trying! There was a time I didn’t check it for 10 days straight and I realised it didn’t affect me as such, that I could stay away from it, and still be happy. There’s so much sad around right now, I am trying my best to spread positivity, be there for people who need me, trying to spread some happiness. its def difficult to do so with the pandemic around, but yes, doable! I think people need to understand that self love is imp! Nothing what others say matters. Once we achieve that thinking, we will develop a sense of happiness I am sure 🙂

    1. Glad you liked it wonderful. Although “smiling depression” isn’t a clinical diagnosis, for many people, it’s a real problem. Typically, smiling depression occurs when individuals who are experiencing depression mask their symptoms. They hide behind a smile to convince other people that they are happy.

  3. Living with an autoimmune condition it’s a daily challenge to practice self-care. Due to that main fact, I removed myself from social media in 2018. It’s now in 2021, that I created an online presence but slowly coming out of my shell as I’m using a wheelchair. Thanks for sharing this post!

    1. Most welcome Stacy. I am so glad to see that you are being courageous again. Having an online presence can be vulnerable. One that have learnt that life is not a destination but a journey, so live enough before it’s over.

    1. Glad you liked the post. Whatever we do, life is short and we are all going to die. Then why run all the time as if we will make ourselves immortal? This is a point to reflect about. So maybe they are not that ignorant at all and they have realised this truth so they are dancing their heart out and finally those who couldn’t enjoy may live in regrets

What if the problem with being unhappy had everything to do with not sharing your feelings? I wonder if we all became a little more vulnerable and opened up, we could find the support we need to be happy. I understand there is grief and pain, but in today’s world, we are talking about a deeper unhappiness that looks to be loneliness in disguise.

    1. The best part of being human is being able to connect with other humans. We’re hardwired for it. We live in tribes and families, work in groups, love as couples and thrive in friendships. The drive to connect is in all of us whether we acknowledge it or not.

Yet, we’re seeing more loneliness, more depression, more broken relationships, more disconnection. What’s happening?

Vulnerability is the driving force of connection. It’s brave. It’s tender. It’s impossible to connect without it.

But we’ve turned it into a weakness.

Vulnerability is scary and it will take practice. It won’t reach some people but we don’t have to give up. You’ll probably find me on the trail or in the grocery store where I vow to always look at you and say hello. I promise.

    1. Self –love is never selfish, it is about being aware that loving oneself is also about loving others. It is offering an indirect love, in a way that you fulfill it within yourself first. The kind that is genuine, pure and true and is openly available for you. Thank you for liking the post.

    1. When you compare yourself to somebody else, you don’t really focus on your work. All you think about is how quick you are, or aren’t, seeing results compared to the other person. It’s distracting and can lead to poor quality work.
