You see, when you spend most of your time trying to be whatever everyone wants you to be, wearing all kind of masks and costumes based on the role you are expected to be playing, you begin to lose yourself. Because you become so obsessed with this idea of being loved and approved of by everyone you come in contact with, you run around like a mad person, putting mask after mask and costume after costume and after a while, you begin to identify yourself with all of these masks and costumes. You begin to think that you are one with them. And in the end, you get lost in the crowd, becoming one of the millions, if not billions, of people who have no idea who they are and what they stand for.

You have one life – this one right now – you must live it, own it, and especially don’t let other people’s opinions distract you from your path. Dare to give up living your life to other people’s expectations and start living it Your Way instead.

Don’t you even dare, not even for a second, to think that who you are is not good enough and that you have to go around pretending to be something that you’re not just so that you can get some love and validation from those around you. You are good enough!

Don’t go around begging for love. Don’t put yourself in that position. Just know that in this moment you are enough, you are good enough and you don’t need anyone or anything to feel this way. Never get your sense of worth from outside yourself. Don’t let other people tell you how much you’re worth, decide for yourself. It’s called Self-worth not others worth.

  1. The ironic part is that once you stop worrying about “winning” other people’s love and just let yourself *be*, you’ll find that the love comes easier anyhow! Great read!

  3. Wonderful post. Live up to your expectations. You can never satisfy people. More to allow them to live upto there expectations more you will be taken for granted and tend to be misunderstood

    1. Absolutely. Humans are not designed to be happy, or even content. Instead, we are designed primarily to survive and reproduce, like every other creature in the natural world. A state of contentment is discouraged by nature because it would lower our guard against possible threats to our survival.

  4. I used to be the ultimate people pleaser to gain love. Now not only do I live my own life but I create it with my thoughts. I have self-love
and I know that I am enough.

    1. If you live your own life, you live in the way that you want to and accept responsibility for your actions and decisions, without other people’s advice or interference. Adults need to live their own lives and that’s difficult with children. See full dictionary entry for life.

      1. That’s why it is the high responsibility of the parents to teach, guide or mentor the children well enough to be able to make competent decisions on their own when mature. It’s easier for those who learns to be submissive at first before going on with following their mind when it’s the right time. All men must serve, but not forever like a dog. Children should learn to obey and learn, while adults should be able to make their own choices in full understanding of its context.
That’s why there’s the difference between confidence and arrogance, unfortunate for those who takes arrogance for confidence. But the thought is to “learn the ways(first), and find your own way.”
