Welcome to the Daily Dose of Self Love. This series will be about self love, self care, self esteem and self worth. Basically everything related with SELF. My aim with this series is to give you a daily boost of self love and self care. We all get busy with our lives and sometimes it leaves us less or no time to take time for ourselves, be with ourselves, wash off all the negativity that we accumulated during the day with self love, meditation, etc. The daily boost will be in an easy to understand and more importantly something which is relatable. So Welcome!!
Self Love Practice Tip #30
In today’s post we will talk about how colourism affect our self esteem. That is do you question your worth depending on your skin colour? What can be more superficial that judging someone based on their skin colour. It is important for everyone to become aware of it and address it in a positive way, where everyone can try to understand the issue and that way we can start with resolutions and creating awareness. It is very important to address this issue first within yourself. If you question your self worth and value based on what society says? The media and beauty industry all across the world has shown us what the perfect body is and what skin colour is preferred. When you never see someone who looks and like you or belongs to the same ethnicity in a positive light, the impact on your spirit can be devalued.
Here’s how you can build self esteem > https://empress2inspire.blog/2019/03/13/how-to-build-self-esteem/
Discrimination based on skin colour is known as colourism. It happens with people amongst the same racial group. The effect on self esteem on darker coloured people specially women is tremendous because of the prejudice preferences towards lighter skin women created by media and society. We see lighter skin as pretty or we think that is preferred. You can combat this issue within yourself. Come back tomorrow for more on this topic.
