Your mind is a very powerful thing, and most of us take it for granted. We believe we aren’t in control of what we think because our thoughts seem to fly in and out all day long. But you are in control of your thoughts, and you become what you think about. And that little kernel of truth is the secret power of the mind.
It’s really not a secret after all. The power is available to every single person, including you. And it’s free.
“The secret” is that you are what you think. You become what you think about. You can create the life you want, simply by thinking the right thoughts.
Earl Nightingale on “The Strangest Secret”
In 1956, Earl Nightingale wrote “The Strangest Secret” in an attempt to teach people the power of the mind, the power of thought. He said, “you become what you think about all day long.”
Nightingale’s inspiration came from Napoleon Hill’s book, “Think and Grow Rich,” published in 1937.
For 75 years (and likely long before that), this simple “secret” has been taught to adults around the world. At the very least, the knowledge has been available to us.
How the Power of the Mind Can Work to Improve Your Life
We are creatures of habit. We tend to follow the picture in our minds created by our parents, our neighborhoods, our towns and the part of the world from which we come. For good or for bad.
But we don’t have to. We each have a mind of our own, capable of imagining life the way we want it. We can say yes or no to the million choices we each encounter every single day. Sometimes it’s good to say no, of course, or we wouldn’t get anything at all done. But the most successful people say yes to life overall. They are open to possibilities. They believe they have the power to make changes in their lives. They aren’t afraid to try new things or to fail.
In fact, many of the most successful companies reward people who have the courage to try new things, even if they fail, because the things we call failures often turn into extremely successful things. Did you know Post-It Notes were a mistake in the beginning?
How to Use the Power of Your Mind
Start imagining your life the way you want it. Create a picture in your mind and think about that picture steadfastly all day long. Believe in it.
You don’t have to tell anybody. Have your own quiet confidence that you can make the picture in your mind come true.
You will start making different choices in line with your picture. You will take small steps in the right direction.
You’ll also encounter obstacles. Don’t let these obstacles stop you. If you hold your picture of the life you want steadfast in your mind, you will eventually create that life.
What have you got to lose? Close your eyes and start now.
You will become what you think about.

Thank you Eleanor. Your subconscious mind is a powerful force to be reckoned with. It makes up around 95% of your brain power and handles everything your body needs to function properly, from eating and breathing to digesting and making memories. It’s a very strange being when you think about.

Thank you Nicholas. Mind power is composed of your attention, your mental images and your thoughts. Thoughts are energy. Though subtle and invisible, they can affect reality. Just like the wind, which is invisible, but can be powerful, so are your mind and thoughts.

Glad you asked. The most important thing that thins book teaches you is the power of burning desire. People desire things all the time. But they don’t get it. Do they? Why? Because they don’t want it bad enough. People change their desire more frequently than stocks change their value. If you stick to one desire and keep on chasing it, you tend to get it in its physical form. Having great desires, big desires, too many desires is not a problem. Changing desires is. There is one place where change is a not welcome then it should be in your desires.

Mind is above senses.Above mind is the intellect , that controls it . Emotions and intelligence act and react and propel the life inwardly and outwardly.
Great post and amazing explanation 💜

The original question, is there something more powerful than our brain? Considering the above scenario, we could think that there is something other than our brain which impacts our emotions, physical and biological changes. It’s called our mind, our subconsciousness, the state which understands and become aware of our surroundings and everything above.
One could argue, everything, each feeling, emotion, or action, is caused by a chemical change triggered in our brain. In other words, there is a biological explanation of whatever emotion we feel or might confront in the future. If that’s true, understanding every little detail about our brain should unlock the greatest mystery of human behavior, which would explain why we do what we do.

True humans, non-humans all have brains . Mind draws the line of distinction. Very true. Higher than the mind is intellect. The faculty of reasoning , the power of discriminative judgement.. The knowledge we cherish in scriptures , is upheld by intellect, while mind applies this knowledge in practical life. It’s just values we uphold(intellect) and practice ,(mind).
Magical it would be if one regards intellect higher than mind than he can effectively practice his knowledge, which he knows to be truth. Mind needs control .It can use the knowledge for construction or destruction.

We are aware of a tiny fraction of the thinking that goes on in our minds, and we can control only a tiny part of our conscious thoughts. The vast majority of our thinking efforts goes on subconsciously. Only one or two of these thoughts are likely to breach into consciousness at a time.

Your Mind Is Your Body’s Strongest Muscle. The strongest “muscle” in your entire body is not located in your legs, chest, arms, or back. The human mind is definitely the most powerful “muscle” and a strong mind can push you through any reasonable obstacle.

“What have you got to lose?”
Good point. So much of taking on a better mindset, thinking positively and moving forward with that life – is about freeing yourself from your *past.*
So maybe that’s all you’ve got to lose. Which, in fact, isn’t something you should be clutching onto anyway…

Your subconscious mind has something called a homeostatic impulse, which regulates functions like body temperature, heartbeat and breathing. Brian Tracy explained it like this: “Through your autonomic nervous system, [your homeostatic impulse] maintains a balance among the hundreds of chemicals in your billions of cells so that your entire physical machine functions in complete harmony most of the time.”
