Get ready to maximise your potential, maximise your living with empress2inspire’s new posts series “Daily Dose of Living”. These series will bring you the best in personal development and productivity every day of the week. Your best life awaits.

Today we will continue to talk about how to deal with your family’s bad habits. Having the right mindset is very important. The Stoic philosopher Epictetus writes about the idea of focusing on what we control, and letting go of what we can’t control:

“There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power of our will.” ~Epictetus

That’s probably not anything new to any of you, but it’s a good reminder that when it comes to our loved ones … we have no control over what health habits they form. Even if they’re our kids. We tend to want everyone to do things the right way, which is our way. If we eat a healthy diet, we want our loved ones to do that too. But that’s not under our control, and our happiness will be severely hampered if we let ourselves focus on things out of our control. Instead, focus on your own good habits. And being compassionate with those you love. These are things that are (somewhat) under your control.

Come back tomorrow for more inspiration.

Fantastic reminder also I like the quote from Epictetus. It is important to take care or yourself and it is hard to not worry about others and their habits especially when its out of love and care but it will be their choice and they can’t be forced into things as it may backfire.

I agree. Go through the motions. That means engaging in healthy behaviors can, in turn, start to change your emotions and beliefs.
