All of us have compared ourselves to others at one point in our lives.
As humans we want to feel admired, valued, and loved, but you don’t have to seek validation and approval in order to prove to yourself and others that you are likable.
Seeking self assurance and validation is a form of insecurity and low self esteem. when we have low self-esteem we compare ourselves to others based on their appearance, career level, and popularity. we will find ourselves trying to level up from these people who we feel are better than us.
There becomes a schism between how we want to be seen and how we see ourselves. we will change ourselves in many different ways to prove to ourselves we are superior to them. we will also change ourselves to be more admired by our peers, community, the media, and society. by doing so we will think that we are validated in who we are, but this will only leave us feeling empty with never enough satisfaction.
Trying to be someone you are not will always create tension within yourself. the need and urge to be better than everyone will put an unnecessary amount of stress on you. because, it is in fact, stressful to try and keep up with being the person you aren’t and consistently creating an illusion to others you are somebody different than your true self.
You will never truly feel validated or satisfied because you will always be craving more. to be bigger, better, higher than others.
And no one is superior than anyone based on their appearance, career level, or popularity.
You know what is best for you and don’t let anyone tell you how to be happy. you define your own happiness on your own terms. but you should never be so self-absorbed in the pursuit of your own happiness that you cause hurt on others.
Learn to be okay with people not knowing your part of the story.
If you know yourself, don’t share yourself with others who will never see you for you. you don’t have to prove who you are to anyone.
Be you, and don’t waste your time to prove your worth, or yourself.
The people who haven’t listened, never will.
So don’t waste your breath on them.
