Humour me for a moment… bring to mind an experience from your past where you felt you were wronged. Now, when you look at that experience, was there an action or lack of action made by you that contributed to this perceived wrongful doing? Perhaps you wanted to, but didn’t speak up and say, “I don’t appreciate you speaking to me that way.”
Or, maybe you were testing the waters of trust in your relationship by picking fights or playing hard to get and it blew up in your face.
Or, perhaps your workload/workplace seemed to create more stress for you but you just kept on saying, “It is what it is.” Do you see how it’s possible that YOU were a contributor to your own pain?
As the examples above illustrate, you can see how not speaking up perpetuates negative feelings such as lacking self-worth and value. And why were you testing the waters of your relationship in the first place? Was it because of your own insecurity towards relationships due to past pain and hurt?
And what about the “It is what it is” mentality? Does that contribute to your workload/workplace stress? Are you hesitant to look elsewhere for a job that could give you more time, purpose, and fulfillment? Do you choose certainty in the safety of what you know over the uncertainty that comes with taking risks, being vulnerable, and maybe even getting the life you always dreamed of?
If you dig a little deeper into those past experiences with an objective eye, you just might be able to reveal the source of the ‘shit’ you have buried in you.
It’s tough to face it, I know…I’ve been there too many times to count.
I also know that the pain and suffering you went through may not have been a result of your actions. Some things in life are simply beyond our control.
If that is you, I am deeply sorry that you experienced that trauma in your life. But, you are NOT your trauma! That is something that you experienced, it’s not who you truly are.
Whether it be a nuisance of life that pissed you off, a heartbreaking experience, or a life changing trauma, the next step is to face it, forgive yourself, and OWN it!
I know it’s messy and even painful.
However, once you own your shit, you can reclaim your personal power and take responsibility for what occurs in your life. By taking steps to be more honest with yourself, practice transparency, and give yourself courageous permission to be vulnerable, the doors of greatness will open with ease.
You already know that things aren’t always perfect, but by showing up in your truth, this is how life at its best can unfold. When you own your shit with confidence, you have the ability to inspire others, and be of service by providing support and guidance from your own experiences. Heck, maybe you can encourage others to embrace their own shit and change their lives for the better too.
You are a warrior and in order to be the best version of you, OWN YOUR SHIT!!!!!!
