So, if you’re staring at these words right now, this is what I know about you:
A: You’re reading this and the question posed in the headline got you clicking.
B: You are in two minds about something.
C: You might be looking for ‘something’ to push you towards the right direction.

If you ask most people, they usually admit to having a ‘gut feeling’ about something. Especially when it comes to something that really matters. Whether they trust that gut feeling or not all comes back to fear. Fear of failing. Fear of disappointing someone else. Fear of judgement.
Those are the three fatal f-words in my books. At the end of the day, only you know what’s ticking in your head. Of course, other people’s opinions and feelings matter (I am not advocating you should transform yourself into Cordelia Chase from Buffy: The Vampire Slayer here). We all make choices in life and I guess, here’s what it all comes back to:
In choosing not to do something you truly want or believe in, are you robbing yourself of contentment?
I know when I’m older, I want to be able to look back and know that I followed my heart. I dared to dream. Even if I fail or stumble along the way, it’s far better than winding up bitter. And if something is scary, it generally means it’s worth doing. Change may not even immediately lead you to where you’re supposed to be. But it’s a step closer.
At the end of the day, life is a journey. It’s a journey that delivers incredible highs and amazing lows but if you remain true to yourself, you can’t really go wrong.The next time you find yourself questioning if you should take your leap of faith, shuffle aside the fear, be brave, be bold and do these four things:
#1: Listen to your own voice
Sometimes, you need to get away from everyone else’s advice and opinions and just be alone with yourself. Removing yourself for a couple of hours by going for a simple walk will help you to figure out what that little voice in your head is saying. What is your gut trying to tell you?Have faith and trust in what your gut is trying to tell you.
#2: Think of those good old choose your own adventure novels
Change can be terrifying. I know myself that when I walked away from a job I’d been at for half a decade, I was plagued by fears. I was walking away from a bunch of people who were my work family – in many ways, I grew up with them. What if things didn’t work out? What if I made the move and wasn’t unhappy? What if I fail? So much is in our mind-set. Remember those choose your own adventure novels you read as a kid? Apply this thinking to your future and soon, you’ll find genuine excitement about what’s ahead of you, replacing your fears.
#3: Be true to yourself
After attending a Women in Leadership conference in Melbourne earlier this year, one quote just stuck in my head: “You can’t be good at what you’re not passionate about” – Alisa Camplin. I couldn’t shake that line. It’s simple but it’s the best piece of advice anyone could give you. We’d all love to be confident power-suit wearing women but often, accepting your true path in life is often half the battle.
#4: Listen to your body
As great as success is, you won’t be happy unless you’re healthy. Burning the candle at both ends of the stick isn’t only unsustainable, you’ll reach a point where your body automatically shuts you down. Stomach issues, migraines, excessive tiredness… Don’t try to fool your body. The world is filled with a heap of people filled with so much potential. The difference between someone who’s successful and someone who’s a dreamer, is that one took a leap of faith while the other let worry cloud their dream and vision.
