Quotes on Gita : āIf one reads Bhagavad-Gita very sincerely and with all seriousness, then by the grace of the Lord the reactions of his past misdeeds will not act upon himā Lord Shiva to Parvatidevi, Gita-Mahatmya.
No other philosophical or religious work reveals ,in such a lucid and profound way, the nature of consciousness, the self, the universe and the Supreme. I shall read (Youtube Link Attached) and write Gita verses from the book āBhagvan-Gita As It Isā by Swami Prabhupada everyday.
Chapter 2 ā Contents of the Gita Summarised
Text 70 – A person who is not disturbed by the incessant ļ¬ow of desires ā that enter like rivers into the ocean, which is ever being ļ¬lled but is always still ā can alone achieve peace, and not the man who strives to satisfy such desires.
Purport – Although the vast ocean is always ļ¬lled with water, it is always, especially during the rainy season, being ļ¬lled with much more water. But the ocean remains the same ā steady; it is not agitated, nor does it cross beyond the limit of its brink. That is also true of a person ļ¬xed in Kį¹į¹£į¹a consciousness. As long as one has the material body, the demands of the body for sense gratiļ¬cation will continue. The devotee, however, is not disturbed by such desires, because of his fullness. A Kį¹į¹£į¹a conscious man is not in need of anything, because the Lord fulļ¬lls all his material necessities. Therefore he is like the ocean ā always full in himself. Desires may come to him like the waters of the rivers that ļ¬ow into the ocean, but he is steady in his activities, and he is not even slightly disturbed by desires for sense gratiļ¬cation. That is the proof of a Kį¹į¹£į¹a conscious man ā one who has lost all inclinations for material sense gratiļ¬cation, although the desires are present. Because he remains satisļ¬ed in the transcendental loving service of the Lord, he can remain steady, like the ocean, and therefore enjoy full peace. Others, however, who want to fulļ¬ll desires even up to the limit of liberation, what to speak of material success, never attain peace. The fruitive workers, the salvationists, and also the yogÄ«s who are after mystic powers are all unhappy because of unfulļ¬lled desires. But the person in Kį¹į¹£į¹a consciousness is happy in the service of the Lord, and he has no desires to be fulļ¬lled. In fact, he does not even desire liberation from the so-called material bondage. The devotees of Kį¹į¹£į¹a have no material desires, and therefore they are in perfect peace.
