Slow Down

on

The modern world is fast paced, but integrating time to slow down does not mean you get left behind. I actually think in both business and life, that learning to slow down is an advantage, heres why:

1. Recharge

Slowing down is about recharging yourself both physically and mentally. It gives you the energy to be creative. You have to save yourself before you can save the world.

2. Intention

When we get carried away in this fast-paced modern world, we often end up doing things that don’t actually need to be done; our actions start to lack intention. By slowing down, we can more easily reflect and assess which things we actually need to do and which are superfluous. Ironically, by slowing down and becoming more intentional, we actually make more time.

3. Happiness

In the end, if your not gearing your life towards happiness, then what’s the point? Slowing down helps shift our perspective on life, adjusting our priorities and desires to be geared towards happiness.

In the end, especially in business, I don’t think it is about being fast or slow, but about allowing regular time for slowness, so that we can be better in the fast.

What can we do to slow down? Read. Eat Ramen. Meditate.

Slowing down enables you to be more sensitive to the dynamics and needs of yourself and those around you. It affords you the time to be there for others more attentively. By slowing down to notice things, you make a difference in lives by adding quality interactions, connections and moments.

    Garima,

I got mentally burned out this summer so this is very fitting. I wonder how many of us need to take time to slow our pace more often, but don’t realize it.

    Thanks,

    Gary

It’s hard to slow down when you are trying to do a million things. Instead, make the conscious choice to do less. Focus on what’s really important, what really needs to be done, and let go of the rest. Put space between tasks and appointments, so you can move through your days at a more leisurely pace.

Love it. Garima, I just came of medical leave for mental burnout. This is where I am now on the recovery side. As a high school teacher it’s all managing mental stress. So, yes I am doing less and incorporating decompression and quiet times.
Hope you have a great not too crazy week.
