Time boxing is a well known time management technique. We could all use some time management technique while working from home and trying to keep up with the changing times. Time boxing is a simple time management technique in which you do the best work you can within the time available. In terms of managing your own tasks, time boxing can be a helpful technique. You can use it in two different ways :
- Say you want something done but there is a risk you end up taking far more time than it is worth because it a kind of task where you might exhibit perfectionism, so you give yourself a specific amount of time and simply do the best job you can within the stipulated time. No work can be done perfectly. There is always a scope for improvement, thanks to the variables that human nature can play with. So do what you can in that time and be open to changes later on.
- Say you have a task or project which you wish to complete but don’t really know where to begin or it seems like a long time before you can finish a meaningful chunk or it is something you find very tedious to complete and have a tendency to procrastinate on. Use time boxing to simply commit working on the task for a limited period of time to put a dent in it. You can normally do limit yourself for a period of 30 to 120 minutes. Release the concern of reaching a particular milestone with that stipulated time. Simply commit to putting in the time regardless of how far you get.
So this was a nice and quick post about time management that could help get things done. Come back tomorrow for more tips.
