Welcome to the Daily Dose of Self Love. This series will be about self love, self care, self esteem and self worth. Basically everything related with SELF. My aim with this series is to give you a daily boost of self love and self care. We all get busy with our lives and sometimes it leaves us less or no time to take time for ourselves, be with ourselves, wash off all the negativity that we accumulated during the day with self love, meditation, etc. The daily boost will be in an easy to understand and more importantly something which is relatable. So Welcome!!
Self Love Practice Tip #14
Self compassion. If you haven’t heard of this word before, please know that this is incredibly important. Compassion comes from Buddhism, this idea that we are kind to ourselves which seems very simple but yet so few of us actually do it. Do you know how to speak to yourself? Do you speak to yourself kindly or judgingly? Most of us never actually notice or talk about how they are speaking to themselves. We are speaking to ourselves all day everyday in our heads. So develop a little bit of awareness of how you are speaking to yourselves? What is the tone? Are you being kind to yourself? Are you being critical? Are you shouting at yourself? Would you speak to a friend like that? and the key thing to have in mind here is Would you have a friend like that? If you are walking around the house all day talking to yourself and saying how stupid you are to have gained all this weight or how stupid you are that you are not successful yada yada yada, ofcourse it will be very difficult for you to feel good about yourself.
So just the first step is bringing awareness to the way you are speaking to yourself. Put everything that you are saying to yourself through a filter. Ask yourself if you would speak to close one like this or would you tolerate if someone else speaks to you that way? If it’s not kind, compassionate, constructive, gentle, loving, then make a conscious effort to start to change that. If you can do this and I am not saying it is going to be easy, it will actually transform self love and the way you feel about yourself. Self compassion is recognising that you are a human being and part of being a human being is that you are never going to be perfect, you are going to make mistakes that is 100% guaranteed, you are a work in progress and it is about treating yourself with the same kind of self respect which you would do for a friend.
Hope this helped. Come back tomorrow for more self love tips.
