From a runny nose to a sore throat, you’ll find that most of the ailments associated with colds can be cured using simple herbal treatments.
Receive that aches, pains and shivers that accompany a cold with a restorative and warming muscle rub.
A gentle massage of almond oil with a couple of drops of basil essential oil will ease the muscles, especially when blended with uplifting antiseptic oils such as lemon or juniper. For a more invigorating rub add 1 or 2 drops of coriander or black pepper to almond oil. Both are warming herbs that will help ease body’s stiffness and stimulate the circulation. Black pepper also has powerful macrobiotic properties, helping to detoxify the whole body.
A different type of decongestant rub can be made with menthol or peppermint oil diluted in olive oil and applied liberally to the throat, neck and chest.
Black pepper is a warming herb when used in massage, but can cause skin irritation in sensitive areas.
Treat some lips with a cream made from aloe vera. The juices of the aloe vera plant soothe and repair damaged or irritated skin.
Cold Sores Remedies
To heal cold sores, make a lip salve by blending 10 drops of tea tree oil into 5 grams of coconut oil. Store in a dark glass bottle and apply frequently. The coconut is a rich moisturiser while the tea tree will treat the herpes virus that causes cold sores. Tea three oil can also be applies neat using a cotton bud 2-3 times daily at the first tingling of a cold sore to prevent it erupting.
Aloe vera is perfect for treating sore lips, while tea tree oil can be applied neat to a cold core.
