The modern world is fast paced, but integrating time to slow down does not mean you get left behind. I actually think in both business and life, that learning to slow down is an advantage, heres why:
1. Recharge
Slowing down is about recharging yourself both physically and mentally. It gives you the energy to be creative. You have to save yourself before you can save the world.
2. Intention
When we get carried away in this fast-paced modern world, we often end up doing things that don’t actually need to be done; our actions start to lack intention. By slowing down, we can more easily reflect and assess which things we actually need to do and which are superfluous. Ironically, by slowing down and becoming more intentional, we actually make more time.
3. Happiness
In the end, if your not gearing your life towards happiness, then what’s the point? Slowing down helps shift our perspective on life, adjusting our priorities and desires to be geared towards happiness.
In the end, especially in business, I don’t think it is about being fast or slow, but about allowing regular time for slowness, so that we can be better in the fast.
What can we do to slow down? Read. Eat Ramen. Meditate.
