There is a simple reason for this, changing things hurt. Change light up an area in the brain prefrontal cortex. Prefrontal cortex’s capacity is finite, it can deal with only handful of concepts before bumping up with limits. That bump generate a possible sense of discomfort, produces fatigue and even anger. This is because the prefrontal cortex is directly connected to the primitive area of emotions in the brain, the amygdala which controls our fight or flight response. Most people resort to discipline but it doesn’t work. Discipline takes a lot of energy because we try to bend our will in doing something difference from what is most pleasurable for us to do at that moment towards what may be useful for a long run.
