Herbs for Muscle Pull Part 1
Pulling your muscles is always an unpleasant business, but the healing process can be turned into a treat with some of the herbal remedies below.
- Rosemary – The tonic, antiseptic and sedative properties of rosemary make this herb invaluable for muscle pulls, as well as for bone ailments such as arthritis, and for mental and physical exhaustion. If you takes rosemary internally, it improves blood circulation , helping your muscles heal faster. Add fresh sprigs of rosemary to vinegar or cooking oil, or add a small sprig to hot water for a tea, or to your bath water. You can make a rosemary liniment with alcohol to massage into your muscles.
- Laurel Bay – The antiseptic, antispasmodic properties of laurel bay leaves make them useful for muscle strains and pulls. Add 10 dried leaves to a cup of hot water, cover the cup, and leave for 10 minutes. Strain the liquid, discard the leaves and use a cloth dipped in the liquid as a compress. Don’t use the leaves undiluted on the skin, as they can cause dermal irritation. Pick and dry your own laurel bay leaves, then you’ll always have some handy.
- Chamomile – Relaxation is vital for muscle pulls and chamomile is a multi-purpose winner. Drink some chamomile tea and then add a handful of its flowers to a cup of olive oil, leave for 24 hours, then strain to make a massage oil.
