You might not always feel like working. You might prefer to sleep in and stay in bed. You might desire to avoid your duties and put in the least amount of effort. You might think that this implies that you are being slothful. This only indicates that you lack motivation, though. When you are too exhausted or unclear of what to do, it’s common to occasionally feel this way. But you shouldn’t let this be your default setting.
Here are few signs that you’re demotivated not lazy :
- You lack purpose and have a negative outlook. You lack motivation because you haven’t given yourself enough time to figure out what you want out of life. You lack freedom or guidance. There is no motivation to do anything when there is nothing to work for.
- You are stressed. “Good” stress does exist, and you may use it to motivate you to work harder to achieve your goals. Stress that is “bad” also exists. This is dangerous and can drain your energy, which you could have used more effectively.
- Your surrounding environment is draining you. It will be more difficult for you to stay motivated when your surroundings are not supportive of your achievement and well-being. Your home or working environment can either drain and depress you or inspire and energise you.
- You have unrealistic goals. Goals are great, but if you feel they are a mountain too high to climb, you might want to break them down but not be so daunting. Challenges mustn’t be out of reach. They should pull you far enough out of your comfort zone to get them done.
- You lack structure and routine. If you don’t have anything to direct your desire towards, you won’t get anywhere. Instead of carrying out your plans, you’ll spend more time thinking about achieving your goals.
Even when things are challenging, your motivation will keep you moving forward. And when you start to feel “lazy” once more, stop and consider your motivation. How can you get your motivation back?
