You’re dreading waking up on Monday to your duties as it is Sunday night. Being human and carrying out our duties is difficult. Sunday evenings can cause a great deal of dread and anxiety. How many of us eagerly await the weekend only to have it end as quickly as it begins?
What message are your Sunday frights trying to convey? Is there anything else going on outside the upcoming workload, tiredness, etc. Here are a few typical warning indicators that you could recognise:
- Making an effort to obtain adequate sleep for the week
- Difficulty sleeping
- Sweating
- Overplanning (often creates a false sense of control) (often provides a false sense of control)
- Muscle pains and tension
- Avoidance through distraction, procrastination, etc.
- Increased anxiety
- Overburdened by the volume of work
- Reduced appetite
- Elevated heartrate
- Shifts in mood
- Feeling of fear
It can be incredibly challenging to switch from leisure to work mode. Many of us eagerly await the weekend so that we can complete all of our tasks, unwind, and fulfil our obligations, among other things.
How can we enjoy our weekends to the fullest? Here are some tips :
- Front-load your Fridays to make the weekend less demanding.
- Establish a unique, unwinding Sunday schedule.
- Have a special Monday-only event to look forward to.
- Brain dump everything you’re thinking so you can sleep well.
- Ask for assistance (may the tasks be delegated?)
- Move and take care of your body (what does your body need vs. pushing your body to do what you want it to do)
- Acceptance: Stressing over Monday won’t make it any better
- Do the Sunday scaries really exist, or is there another cause? seek assistance when necessary
Even if you are entirely passionate about your work, relationship, parenting, etc., you can still experience the Sunday scares and burnout. Our symptoms are subliminal cues from our bodies that tell us to slow down, get support, and possibly even change our perspective on work/life balance.
