MSM stands for Methyl-sulphonyl-methane, also sometimes known as MSM-Sulphur. Sulphur is the 4th abundant element in the human body. MSM contains approximately 34% natural sulphur. Therefore MSM is thought to be the richest natural source of sulphur to humans.
Dietary sources of sulphur include cauliflower, broccoli, kale, spinach, garlic. onion and eggs. In 1963 MSM hit the press in style. It was called “The most exciting thing in medicine” by the New York Times. MSM was discovered around the 1940s when it was extracted from cow’s milk.
Scientist Dr Stanley Jacob conducted the majority of work done on MSM. He found that applying MSM to an area of injury in the bone or tissue could help to reduce pain. The recommenced daily dose for MSM if 1500mg, taken in 3 doses.
