In today’s post we will continue to talk about the diet culture. Diet culture ties fitness to health and fat to unhealthy, which is not true. There are a lot of thin people with health issues or who don’t necessarily eat healthy but nobody bats an eye for anybody that is positing a picture. So, it’s just terrible. Diet culture overlaps with racism, classism, sexism, ageism. There are inequalities within our food system and diet culture doesn’t consider the different lifestyles and different means of everyone. Look at the commercial you see, like the yogurt commercial, it is just about women, weight loss, I mean why can’t they target men or sell their product beyond a diet. Have you ever seen a commercial focusing on weight loss for men. I have only seen commercials on body building protein for men. Women should not feel guilty about taking extra calories and yes we have the right mind to stop before those calories lead us to a heart attack. Period.
