Making Your Own Soap Part 1
Add your favorite aromatherapy oils to your cleaning products to help you feel pure and fresh at the beginning of every day.
Homemade aromatherapy soap – Add your favorite oils, specific to your skin type, into a bar of soap to customise it exclusively to your needs :
- Your first step in making your own aromatherapy soap is to buy a tub of glycerin soap base from a specialist supplier, if you can’t find one, a bar of pure glycerin soap will do.
- Melt 250g of glycerin in a non-stick pot over a very low heat (around Gas Mark 3) until it is totally liquidised.
- Mix in 30-40 drops of your chosen essential oils, plus any herbs or flowers you desire, and then pour into a container to set (a small margarine tub is a good substitute if you can’t find a proper mould).
- After an hour, the soap should have set and is ready to use. You can cut it into smaller bars if you need to, and give some to friends as gifts.
Aromatherapy soaps often don’t produce as much of a lather as shop bought ones, but don’t let htis put you off. The foam may feel nice, but its effects in helping you to keep clean are actually minimal! By making your own soaps you know exactly what ingredients you are using on your skin.
Adding herbs and flowers to your soaps makes them ideal as beautiful gifts personalised for those you love.

Yes. Natural soap won’t dry out your skin or cause any other skin irritation as all of the ingredients are gentle and skin safe. Natural soap doesn’t contain any synthetic ingredients, which can be absorbed by the skin (the body’s largest organ) and sometimes get into the bloodstream causing problems.

That would be a fun project. I was going to make soap out of old soap shavings at one time. I had left the soap shavings in 3 bowls on my table. I got a kitten bringing it home it got up on the table digging into my plants getting potting soil all through my bowls of shavings. I was not a happy person lol

Hahah thatโs a good one Sheryl. Handmade soap contains glycerin which is a natural byproduct of the soap making process, an excellent moisturizer and also one of the reasons that handmade soap is so good for your skin! … Store bought, mass-produced bars normally do not contain glycerin and can leave your skin feeling dry and irritated.

That’s a great idea indeed especially when we are using almost everything as adulterated. Thanks a lot for sharing.Take care.

Yes and we canโt control the adulteration. You can research the fragrances and colors you are comfortable with, you can leave them out, you can search for organic oils. It is entirely in your control. Conclusion: homemade soap is a superior product to store bought detergent bars.

Handmade soaps have a high content of glycerin, and this makes them naturally hydrating and good for the skin. Glycerin is an essential humectant that naturally draws moisture from the environment deep into the skin when applied. It will keep your skin plump and hydrated for a longer time.

I’ve always wanted to try this. I am a huge supporter of essential oils and use them daily. I’ve made household cleaners, lotions and other skin care but never soap! I hope to explore this more this fall!
