The alternative name for the Ginkgo Biloba plant is the “Maidenhair Tree”. Ginkgo is truly phenomenal, it has been recorded as the oldest living plant at 200 million years old. It has therefore been classified as a living fossil. Ginkgo Biloba is a native plant of China and Japan but now grows across Northern America.
The fruits are highly prized in China, “ginkgo” translates from their word “yinxing”, meaning “silver apricots”. The fruits of the tree have a rancid smell that many cannot stomach, but the leaves are incredibly valuable, and have been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Gingko is best known for its collaboration with Panax Ginseng to produce a cognitive boosting supplement.
