It’s the simplest advice, isn’t it? We were born with the ability to do it. Be ourselves; think, behave and interact with others from our true nature. Sounds easy enough.

What on earth does that mean? How do you “be yourself”? Does that mean dress how you’d like to dress? Does it mean say what you want, when you want, however you want?

Well sure it seems like that…

The problem is that when you actually be yourself, people often question us or imply that what we are doing is the stupid thing to do, and that it’s not acceptable.

Umm…

Here’s the thing: sometimes, what people are really saying is: ‘be yourself!’ As long as it sits well with my values and rules, and doesn’t make me feel like I’m less than you are.

Come to the point already woman…

Stop acting, reacting, and talking from your conditioned old patters or worrying about how others might judge you. When you’re not acting from your old patterns, you are free to be, say, and do who you really are. You’ll also be free to finally let go and feel what you really feel. You can grieve. You can cry. You can scream. Be Spontaneous. When you’re being spontaneous, all the fears and the doubts and the restrictions placed on you as an adult goes away. Have you ever seen a child walk past and do a crazy dance or jump in the middle of the room (Well I still do that by the way, just today I was tip toeing my way to my desk from the coffee machine at work, lost in my own world, oblivious to the surroundings 😉 This is what spontaneity is. When you’re spontaneous, you’re not being restricted by what you think you should or should not do.

Be yourself. You’ll attract the ones who get it. Everyone else is just a spectator anyway.

  1. I can’t think of anything more difficult than to be one’s self; it takes much more than simply deciding to be one’s self–at least for most of us.

    1. Have courage. We are all unique in our own way and are sent in this planet for a specific purpose. We can’t fulfil that purpose unless we be our true self:)

  2. “We were born with the ability to do it.” From that point on we were trained to do as others say.

You have to unlearn EVERYTHING to be able to find out who you were before your training. It is by letting go and unloading that brings you to where you are and who you are ……… a life long job!

  7. Love your blog! How true it is. Now a days you sometimes have to be BRAVE to be yourself. Old saying “it takes all kinds of people to make the world!”. I have seen all kinds of stares from people that look at me. I’ve learn to stare back with a smile. That really makes them wonder what I’m thinking about them.

  8. Such an inspirational post. It is important to be yourself in a world full of people. If you are like everyone else your uniqueness is not seen and you yourself are lost in the crowds. So be unique, be different, be yourself. 🙂

    1. Yes indeed. We are all made unique as we all have a purpose to fulfil in this life. Embracing our uniqueness is the most natural thing to do.

  9. I love this advice. Although often enough it’s hard to actually do it. Everyone should try a little harder. Nobody dies in trying for the better after all.

    1. It’s a everyday work. We don’t have to be perfect, maybe we won’t be in this life. But we are here to live a purpose and if that involves evolving a little alongside pursuing the goal, so be it:). Just enjoy the journey of life, that is the most important of all.

  11. Being ourselves is tantamount to admitting our own weaknesses and strength and acknowledging that we are but human and prone to committing mistakes thus unable to really please everybody.
