Daily Dose of Inspiration – Respect

Respect is one of the things people want the most from others. There is a lot of misunderstanding about ways to get respect from another person or how to respect yourself. Most people have the mentality that they should try to demand respect or it should be given to them. This hardly ever works and will only cause you more disrespect.

First love yourself. If you don’t love yourself you will never be able to give yourself respect. Don’t focus on your flaws and negative things that happen to you. Instead look at your pluses, and your personal traits and skills. I don’t care who you are you have pluses and skills. Everyone has their own special abilities. After you understand you need to love yourself, then you need to believe in your choices and abilities. Even if you are wrong sometimes it’s OK. Nobody is perfect. You need to believe in your ability to succeed. If you don’t believe in yourself nobody will. Believing in yourself is really quite easy.

While it’s true that every human being is born inherently worthy of being treated with respect, there are some who stand out from the crowd and earn an extra portion. It could be because of their accomplishments, natural abilities, heroism or beauty.
You don’t have to be world renowned to gain increased respect. In our smaller circles there are those that others look up to more. It is within your power to become one of those people that others regard with an extra portion of respect. So, Carry yourself with confidence, Treat everyone with kindness and dignity, Act with integrity,  Learn to cope with stress in a cool, calm manner & Accept criticism with grace and an open mind.

Human beings crave the respect of others; it’s coded into our DNA. When we feel like nobody respects us, it’s difficult for us to be positive and productive. When we don’t respect ourselves, we act in ways that our counter to our interests in an attempt to make ourselves feel better. Cultivating self respect and earning the respect of others goes a long way toward leading a balanced, healthy, happy life.

  3. Respect is part of dignity and we all need it. To be treated less, is to feel more invisible than we should ever feel. Thanks for your post.

    1. Self-respect means you recognize your own worth as a human being and avoid anything that will damage your mind, body, or integrity. This means you do your best no matter who is watching—because what you do reveals who you are.
Respect does not mean you have to like everyone, and others might not treat you as they should. But even when you disagree with others or have to part ways, you can still treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve.

      1. Well-said. I agree… it’s hard when you have to part ways due to conflict and hurt feelings, to still treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve. But yes it’s the right way and something I am always working towards… thanks for your post!

    1. Thank you. Surround yourself around those who have common goals; those who motivate. That’s because God specifically ingrained that DNA into their bodies along with respect!!

    Hi Empress,

A healthy self-worth knocks out pride. Yes, everyone needs to be treated good and shown respect. Sometimes it’s not easy, I have a hard time with kids coming stoned to school. I try and see beyond, but it is tough at times.

    Thank you, Gary
