Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering.
There is a crack in everything,
That’s how the light gets in.
— Leonard Cohen
It’s easy to get swept up by the fear that we just aren’t enough. We think we aren’t pretty enough, smart enough, tall enough or thin enough. For example, when we feel we aren’t enough physically, we’re compelled to diet, exercise, wax, pluck and tuck in an attempt to achieve the “perfect” look. Somewhere along the line we’ve equated the perfect butt with the perfect life. But then we go overboard with the zest to achieve the perfection which most of the time end up in depression because everyone is made differently and unique in their own way.
So, then what is perfection?
There is the old saying, “practice makes perfect,” but I’d like to tweak that a little bit. I think practice makes progress. I believe we are all striving everyday towards an ideal, and realistically we may never reach that perfect moment, but that’s not what life is about. Life is about that journey of The Practice. Life is about practice, patience, and progress. Perfection is subjective.
Human perfection isn’t a dream, it’s a nightmare.
If your reason to achieve perfection is to get recognition from others then you are on a wrong path. If your reason to achieve perfection is to be better at something than what you were yesterday, then May the Perfection Be Yours! Have a go and next time you’re chasing perfection, take a step back, realize that you’re already perfect and sit back and enjoy the relaxed feeling of being content with where you’re at.
