Scientist and spiritual teachers alike agree that the simple act can transform you and the world around you. Current research (and common sense) shows us that a smile is contagious. It can make us appear more attractive to others. It lifts our mood as well as the moods of those around us and it can even lengthen our lives. Each time you smile you throw a little feel-good party in your brain. The act of smiling activates neural messaging that benefits your health and happiness.

Smile because you can. Smile because you were born to be happy. We have engulfed ourselves into the ego self so much that we don’t remember to be happy anymore. NO!! This needs to stop NOW!!.

  1. Years ago when I was very frustrated at the limited role women got to play in most Christian denominations, I decided that I could make a difference by smiling. And people responded and it made a difference in my attitude and my habits. However, I may have carried it a bit too far, because one day recently when the check out clerk at the grocery asked my how I was, I admitted that I had a horrible headache. He stopped and looked at me questioningly and asked, “Then why are you smiling?” I didn’t even know I was. 🙂

    The name Dorothy, like Theodore, has a very special meaning. Gift from God. Like a smile. But one very nice quiet lady named Dorothy lived in a nursing home where I worked 25 years ago. Dorothy had Parkinson’s Disease. It prevented her facial muscles from working in sync with her heart and mind. One day, I overheard a couple of workers discussing how little she smiled. One said that working with her made her sad. I replied,
    “Dorothy smiles. Quite often, too. You just have to know where to look for it. You won’t find it on her face. You have to look in her eyes.” A short conversation. A lifetime of changed relationships, at least for three.

        The reverse is also true. Via our eyes others see into ours and through our eyes we identify that which is most important to our soul. This is why we need to be careful about what we view and how we view it.
