Daily Dose of Inspiration – Be Good

Whether you call it random acts of kindness, paying it forward, or good deeds, they are very powerful. That is why almost every religion and culture values and rewards the performance of good deeds.

But what is “Being Good”.

Once you get your definition down, then you have to stick with it wherever you go, no matter what you doOthers will always try to change your definition of “good,” especially when it makes them feel bad about themselves. But you must stand by your own definition, even when others mock you for doing so.

But do it for yourself. Be good to other for yourself. We all crave for that warm and fuzzy feeling we get after doing good deeds.

I am a big believer that doing good, and just being nice to people, begets good treatment in return for the most part. Therefore there is a return, just not necessarily from a particular act or specific relationship. I am not referring to this in a spiritual or cosmic sense. What I mean is that by building a reputation for putting yourself out (whether as an individual or a brand), doing good for others without expectation of something directly in return from that person, and generally being nice will most definitely add to your life in so many ways. People will notice, talk about it, spread the word, and in general most will treat you better, do for you, and watch your back because of the way you treat people.

One good deed everyday…keeps bad karma away :D.

I love that I get to decide what “good” means for me and that, “good” can mean different things for different people.

    That’s fair enough.

But I’d rather be original and forget about being either “good” or “bad” as they are merely subjective classifications and mean different things to different people.

In short, all I care about is being me, rather than being “good” or “bad”.

Showing kindness ( the real stuff) brings you good luck. Never do it so that you can feel better about yourself. Just be kind at the moment that needed kindness. No pre meditation. Just like the rain comes in the forest to water the plants

If you start out being “bad” you don’t have to worry about not being “good”!

A bad deed once a day keeps the good away.

But you’ll only get coal in your Christmas stocking! Be warned!

I remember having a conversation with a young lady I worked with a few years ago about leaving a legacy. What do you want out of life, what did she want to be remembered for I asked. She looked at me and returned the question, my response was to be remembered for being a good person, someone who always poured positive energy into others. Helping those who needed it and treating people how I wished to be treated.
The words that fell out of her mouth were astonishing to me, (that’s a lie, no one wants to just help people) as if she was so self-centered she couldn’t fathom doing something good for anyone. I never looked at her the same after that eye opening exchange of verbal soul gazing. It made me realize that the art of caring was a dyeing one. Her answer to the question by the way was “power” she stated she wanted to be in a position of power and control of others. Scary thought now when I think about it.
    Great piece, yet again…

    1. Beautiful story. Everyone has their own story to write, and if she wanted power, maybe she wanted it for a reason. 🙂

    Hello Empress,

Well said. In our sometimes mean and a cruel world, kindness throws that nastiness for a loop. What a way to make a difference. Thank you again, Empress, for your posts. Have a Merry Christmas.
