You may have read the stats. Workplace productivity is up and employment is down. That can only mean that fewer people are in the workplace but now they have to work harder and longer. No wonder so many people are always tired and sucking down coffee and energy drinks. Since there are still only 24 hours in a day you not only have to be more productive, but also maintain high energy and stay happy. Otherwise you’ll drag yourself down, end up a miserable, grumpy, scrooge, and take a lot of folks with you on the way.
Here are few simple ways in which you can stay supercharged at work :
- Coffee – Caffeine is an energy booster, but wait two hours after waking for your first cup, and stick with one to avoid a crash.
- Cut the Carbs – Researchers have found that salmon, kale, avocado, bananas, and nuts are the best energy-boosting foods.
- Stay Hydrated – Keep a large water bottle on your desk to remind yourself to take frequent sips. Dehydration is one of the top causes for feeling fatigued.
- Go Green – As little as five minutes in a park or near greenery can improve your mood and increase oxygenation in the brain.
- Exercise – Powering through exhaustion with music isn’t just effective at the gym; science shows that our favorite songs trigger a rush of dopamine in the brain, activating your energy.
- Break a Sweat – If you can squeeze a workout into your lunch break, it’s a definite way to stay at peak performance until the end of the day.
- Take a Giggle Break – Multiple studies have found that laughter can improve overall energy levels.
- Power Up with Pumpkin – Pumpkin seeds are rich in protein and fibre. They also contain L-tryptophan, and energy boosting amino acid.
- Watch Animal Videos – Researchers have found that after showing a test group images of cute animals, their productivity soared.
- Chuf a Shot – A shot of wheatgrass contains 70% chlorophyll, which is a superfood. its benefits are too many to count, but it works as an instant energizer without a caffeine crash.
- Check Yourself – Stress can lead to fatigue. Take a minute to prioritize your workload. If you’re overwhelmed, just write a to-do list for the next hour and focus on that.
- Energize with Oil – Try keeping a few essential oils on your desk for a spot of scent therapy. Lemon, orange, eucalyptus, grapefruit, peppermint, and cedar oil can help you feel revitalized.
- Clean Your Desk – Take 10 minutes to organise your desk. A cluttered desk can lead to feeling overwhelmed, zapping more of your stamina.
- Stand Up – Standing desks can help improve circulation, leading to extra energy and less painful neck cramps by the afternoon.
- Just Breath – If you’ve been burning the candle at both ends for an important project, you’re probably exhausted. Studies have shown that mindful breathing can reduce stress.
- Rest Your Eyes – Screen fatigue is real. Doctors recommend taking 20 second micro- breaks every 20 minutes to close your eyes, and take a break from the glare of your computer, giving your eyes a change to recover.
If you hate what you do then none of my suggestions and no amount of caffeine will energize you enough to grind out depressing work days continuously. Find a way to get paid doing what you enjoy. No need to make yourself and everyone around you miserable. Life is short and you are entitled to enjoy every day of it.
