All About Lutein


Lutein is a compound known as a carotenoid, a subgroup of Vitamin A. There are over 600 carotenoids in nature. Lutein is one of the few that provides health benefits. Many supplement companies source their Lutein from marigold flowers.

There are many natural sources of lutein including cayenne pepper, paprika, egg yolks, spinach and kale. The best way to absorb Lutein is to take it with lipid/oils. To increase Lutein’s bioavailability we suggest taking the tablet with a spoon of oil or with an omega 3 oil capsule.

  • Lutein can reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, because Lutein is an antioxidant it is thought to prevent the production of atheroma that will clog the artery.

    Sounds like something good and basic for one’s health. My grandpa swore by food as medicine.

      Yes Gary, it is. There currently is no Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) or Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for lutein or zeaxanthin, but some experts say you should ingest at least 6 milligrams (mg) of lutein per day for beneficial effects.
