A mentor is a person or friend who guides a less experienced person by building trust and modeling positive behaviors. An effective mentor understands that his or her role is to be dependable, engaged, authentic, and tuned into the needs of the mentee.
There are primarily 5 types of mentors that have been identified :
- Jedi Master – This is the mentor who has garnered their wisdom from years of experience. They take the time to sit down with their mentees and share their knowledge with those who are eager to learn.
- Campaign Manager – This mentor speaks on your behalf to open doors for you, whether its a new business opportunity or career advancement. This mentor connects you to new opportunities and acts as a reference for you.
- Sounding Board – A mentor who acts as your sounding board provides the psychological lift you might need when you meet challenges on your way to achieving goals, problems.
- Mirror – This mentor keeps you accountable. They are your accountability partner and tell you exactly how it is. Their main contribution to your success is the development of your self awareness and helping you convert your weaknesses into strengths.
