Time is one of the most valuable resources we have, as individuals, for making the most of our lives. Yet everyone seems content to just watch time pass by with no control, frivolously spending their resource on trivial unimportant activities; time-wasters. Time is not something to waste, in fact of all the “wasteable” resources we have at our disposal time is absolutely the worst one to be wasting. Yet people continue to do so, all the while crying “I just don’t have enough time!” I am here to tell you that you always have enough time in your life; you probably just waste most of it.

Here are some common things that waste your time on any given day :

  • Not planning your meals. It takes times choosing what to eat and ensuring you have the right ingredients in the house.
  • Watching TV out of habit. Do you watch TV because you can’t think of anything else to do, are bored or lose track of time?
  • Social media. Mindless scrolling can soon add up during the day.
  • Not having a visual to do list. Don’t rely on your memory.
  • Not planning in advance. Avoid problems and don’t forget appointments.
  • Procrastinating. Don’t put things off for another day. Get them done today and feel much better for ticking them off your list at last.
  • Not being organised. Stop running around like a headless chicken. Plan, prepare and give yourself some wiggle room for emergencies.
  • Overloading. Your calendar and your To Do list. Your won’t get it all done anyways.
  • Being tempted by distractions. Try to complete one task at a time and not get side tracked.
  • Not blocking our chunks of time and understanding how long something will take.
  • Checking emails when you can’t action them meaning you have to read them twice instead of just once.
  • Relationships that don’t add value. Only invest your time in friendships that are reciprocal and supportive to you both.
  • Too much multi-tasking so you don’t do any of it properly.
  • Not being intentional & asking yourself why you’re doing something.
  • Too much clutter needing too much of your time to look after it.
  • Not batching errands and work so you have to make multiple trips or switch between different tasks, lose your place and your focus.
  • Not keeping an ongoing shopping list so you forget what you need, water time trying to remember or have to go back to the shops again.
  • Not doing an online weekly shop to save time on multiple trips to the shops.
  • Losing things by not having organised systems in place to help you find things quickly.
  • Prioritising the wrong things because you have no clear purpose or goals.

    1. Glad you like it. If you want to get things done, if you are driven and motivated with big dreams and plans, if you are not looking to just cruise through life but instead, chart your course, move with intention and go places, then you have to watch where your time goes. Wasting time is not an option for you.

  4. So, is it safe to say that I’m not crazy for setting my alarm for different times of the day to allow time for getting things done? I mean, I do stray from it depending on what I need to do, but for the most part, I stick to it.
