Black tea is one of the most commonly consumed hot beverages in the world, and when brewed then chilled, many enjoy it in the form of iced tea. Whether you purchase tea as teabags for brewing or buy prepared tea from the refrigerator case at grocery stores, you’ll find lots of flavoring options that make the tea more interesting.
Here are some of the benefits of black tea that you may find useful.
- Provides Energy : Black tea contains 20-60 mg of caffeine in every cup. It contains L – theanine which is an amino acid responsible for slowing the absorption of caffeine resulting in a smoother, longer-lasting energy booster.
- Protects Heart Health : Studies show that regular consumption of black tea may lower the risk of heart disease. Black tea works to reduce inflammation that can cause clogged arteries and lead to serious health issues.
- Streamlines Digestion : Black tea can help soothe an upset stomach thanks to anti-inflammatory properties. Tannins in black tea can also alleviate diarrhea soothe stomach discomfort.
- Antioxidants : Black tea contains antioxidants that can help eliminate free radicals and prevent oxidative stress. Free radicals can cause damage to cells and have been linked to serious illness including cancer and neurological disease.
- Supports Brain Health : Black tea contains antioxidants that work to alter chemical pathways in the brain to improve mood and reduce stress.
- Reduce Cancer Risk : Black tea may lower risk for certain types of cancer as it contains polyphenols and tannins. While not a cure for cancer, black tea may prevent the proliferation of mutated cells.
Polyphenolic compounds present in black tea can protect cells and tissues from oxidative stress by scavenging free radicals. Synergistic interactions amongst black tea constituents play a major role in the beneficial effect of tea. Number of studies with black tea have demonstrated that plasma antioxidant capacity gets enhanced, ∼1 h after consumption of moderate amounts of tea.
I love it ❣

Love black tea! I drink a lot of Assam, for breakfast I like one with Bergamotte, for iced tea I prefer Ceylon and for special occasions I whip out my Chinese blacks. I also use it to make Kombucha (if I’m not too lazy, that is :D)

Black tea is great! However, if you drink it too much (which I did), it can cause anemia (which it did at some point for me).
