A Real-Life, Plant-Based Grocery List (With Amazon Finds That Saved My Sanity)

I really appreciate you checking out my blog! Just so you know, some of the links in this post are affiliate links. This means that if you buy something through them, I might earn a little bit of money. There’s no obligation to buy anything, but it would mean a lot to me if you did! 😊

When I first decided to eat more plant-based, I thought it would be a simple trip to the grocery store. I figured I’d grab some lettuce, maybe a few cans of beans, and call it a day. Five minutes in, I was standing in the middle of the aisle, completely overwhelmed, clutching a sad head of iceberg lettuce like it held all the answers. Spoiler: it didn’t.

If you’re anything like me — excited but slightly clueless — don’t worry. I’ve learned a lot since that first grocery trip. Today, I’m sharing my must-have vegan essentials that make plant-based eating way easier (and, honestly, a lot more delicious). Plus, I’ll link some actual Amazon products that I use and love, so you can stock up without leaving your couch.

Let’s jump in — grocery list style.

1. Pantry Staples: The Backbone of Every Plant-Based Meal

When I first switched up my eating, I learned quickly: a solid pantry saves your life when you’re hungry and tired.

Here’s what’s always on my shelf:

Dry Beans & Lentils

Canned beans are cool, but dry beans are cheaper and taste better. I love Goya Black Beans and Organic Green Lentils from Amazon — a little prep, and you’ve got meals for days.

Quinoa and Brown Rice

I honestly thought quinoa was just for Instagram influencers, but turns out, it’s so good. I get the TruRoots Organic Quinoa and Lundberg Brown Basmati Rice because they cook up fluffy every time.

Canned Tomatoes

These little cans are magic. Soups, stews, sauces — boom, instant flavor. I keep a few Muir Glen Organic Diced Tomatoes on deck.

Nut Butters

Almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter…basically, they’re all my best friends now. 365 by Whole Foods Peanut Butter is my go-to because it’s just peanuts and salt — no weird stuff.

2. Fridge Essentials: Fresh and Ready

I won’t lie: I got a little too excited my first time and bought every vegetable in sight. Half of them went bad before I figured out what to do with them.

Now, I keep it simple:

Leafy Greens

Spinach, kale, and arugula rotate in my fridge. They’re quick for salads, smoothies, and even stir-fries. When I’m lazy (which is often), I grab Earthbound Farm Organic Baby Spinach.

Avocados

Life is just better with avocados. I’ll grab a bag of Nature’s Touch Frozen Avocado Chunks if I know I won’t use fresh ones fast enough.

Plant-Based Milk

Oat milk saved my coffee habit. I love Califia Farms Oat Milk — creamy, dreamy, and no weird aftertaste.

Hummus

Whoever invented hummus deserves a medal. I usually get 365 Whole Foods Organic Hummus for easy snacking.

3. Freezer Staples: Lazy Night Lifesavers

Confession: I don’t cook from scratch every day. Some nights, the couch calls louder than the kitchen.

Here’s what I lean on:

Frozen Vegetables

No chopping, no washing — just dump and heat. Cascadian Farm Organic Mixed Vegetables are a weekly must-buy for me.

Frozen Fruit

Smoothies happen way more when the fruit is already prepped. I love the 365 by Whole Foods Frozen Berry Blend.

Plant-Based Burgers

Sometimes, I just want something fast and satisfying. Beyond Meat Plant-Based Patties are scary good — even my non-vegan brother stole one off my plate.

4. Spices and Flavor Boosters: Because Plants Need Pizzazz

When I first started cooking plant-based meals, everything tasted a little…meh.

Turns out, seasoning is everything.

Nutritional Yeast

This weird yellow powder changed my life. It’s cheesy, nutty, and perfect sprinkled on everything. I love Bragg Nutritional Yeast Seasoning.

Smoked Paprika and Cumin

These two spices make boring beans taste like something you actually want to eat. I grab Simply Organic Smoked Paprika and McCormick Ground Cumin.

Tamari or Soy Sauce

Instant flavor bombs. I keep San-J Organic Tamari in my pantry at all times.

Hot Sauce

Not optional. I love Cholula Hot Sauce — it makes everything better.

5. Fun Extras: Not Necessary, But Definitely Nice

Sometimes you just want a little treat or something fancy without making a big fuss.

Dark Chocolate

Honestly, bless whoever made vegan chocolate. I’m obsessed with HU Vegan Dark Chocolate — clean ingredients and seriously addictive.

Plant-Based Protein Powder

I don’t use it daily, but it’s great after workouts. Orgain Organic Plant-Based Protein mixes up smooth and actually tastes good.

Chia Seeds and Flaxseeds

These tiny guys are nutrition powerhouses. I toss Viva Naturals Organic Chia Seeds into smoothies or oatmeal.

Final Thoughts: Keep It Simple, Keep It Fun

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: you don’t need a cart full of fancy, expensive stuff to eat plant-based.

Start with the basics. Buy a few things you actually like. Build meals around what you have, and don’t sweat the rest.

Honestly, half the fun is trying new foods and finding what makes your meals exciting.

And remember — if all else fails, there’s always hummus and crackers. Works every time.
