Because When Life Gives You Promises, You Make a Jigsaw Out of Them

In a world where promises can change as quickly as the seasons, I’ve figured out something really important: I’m choosing not to hold onto all the broken promises and dreams that once seemed so bright. Sure, it hurts, but I won’t let that pain stop me from giving my best. Life has shown me that it’s smarter to let go of the past and look forward instead of dragging around old baggage.

As I walk through this adventure called life, I can’t help but be amazed by how unpredictable it is. Have you ever had a day that feels like a romantic comedy, and then the next day it turns into a suspense movie? That’s when you realize that clinging to past problems is like trying to swim with a heavy anchor tied to your leg. There’s a simple fact we often forget: going over things in our minds and asking, “What if I had done that differently?” doesn’t change anything. You can only watch the same old scenes so many times before they get boring. Sometimes I think my brain has a replay button, but I’ve learned it’s not the best feature to have.

Life has taught me that if the universe has a plan for us, it will happen no matter what, and worrying about it won’t change a thing. It’s actually a freeing idea. You can almost picture a grand cosmic concert playing as everything unfolds. Imagine enjoying a slice of chocolate cake while life reveals its little secrets one by one. Sounds amazing, right? Still, I keep moving forward, dessert in hand, without any bitterness, ready to enjoy whatever comes my way.

I’ve come to understand that I don’t need to hold onto blame or anger towards anyone who has disappointed me, even when things suddenly stop. People act based on their own experiences and views, and sometimes, our paths just don’t match up—that’s just how it goes. If life were a dance, maybe they’d be doing a salsa while I’m still working on my tango. But that’s perfectly fine. It’s all about finding the rhythm that works for each of us.

And honestly, I hope that one day you experience what it’s like to be on the receiving end of a broken promise. Not because I want to be mean, but because feeling that kind of letdown helps us grow and understand others better. I know those tough lessons can be hard to take, but they often come with a valuable lesson. To me, keeping your word and truly meaning what you say says a lot about who you are. It’s a quality I really value, and I think it’s essential for any real relationship. Kind of like how coffee and mornings just belong together, right?

Every day, I’m starting to feel happier about moving forward, knowing that what’s really meant for me will show up at the right moment. Even when things get messy and tough, those special moments have a way of making themselves clear. Sometimes, I picture my future chances like excited little puppies waiting just around the bend. It’s nice to think that even if I accidentally push away something good, if it’s meant for me, it will stick around until I’m ready to accept it. Honestly, I’d rather not be like a character in a comedy who misses all the obvious hints. Life can be complicated, and sometimes promises break because of misunderstandings between people. We all have our roles in this big play of life, often missing our cues without even realizing it.

Still, there’s a sense of peace in knowing that a real promise—one that’s truly for you—won’t fall apart at the first sign of trouble. I’ve learned that real promises are like thick soups that can handle the heat and mix well over time. My grandma always said, “The best things come to those who let the pot simmer.” So, I keep my life’s pot on the stove, occasionally stirring and tasting, ready for whatever new flavors fate has in store.

I’ve realized that the only promises I can really keep are the ones I make to myself: to keep growing, to stay open to new chances, and to love deeply and without holding back. I choose to stand up for what matters, even when it feels heavy, like a determined captain steering a ship through choppy waters. Being an optimist can sometimes feel as awkward as an elephant on roller skates, but I’d rather stumble through life with a smile than glide through it with a frown.

That’s how true love and connections get stronger. As I move ahead, I hope to meet someone who sees the world like I do. Someone who finds humor in life’s oddities and values honesty and commitment just as much as I do. Wouldn’t it be amazing if that person loved double-chocolate fudge as much as I do? Until then, I trust the journey and welcome whatever comes my way.

So here I am, dancing through life, jumping over hurdles like a beginner in the Olympics, knowing that I’m doing my best. And that’s perfectly fine! My promise to myself? To keep laughing, learning, and enjoying this strange game we call life. After all, life’s too short to dwell on the misses without celebrating the hits.

If I had to sum it all up, I’d say life gives you puzzles with missing pieces, but you find joy in putting it together one quirky piece at a time. Whether you trip or fly, remember, it’s the journey, not the destination, that makes it all worthwhile. So here’s to promises made, broken, or kept, and the little lessons they teach us. After all, it’s just one big, wild, wacky, wonderful puzzle called life.

  1. Yes, the puzzle metaphor is good. I think of it as a vast picture puzzle (I’m a visual learner) with irregular shapes and colors. And to add a little humor, the last piece is missing. Maybe it fell on the floor and you are standing on it, so you can’t see it. Or perhaps you might find it in your front shirt pocket!

  3. I’m so glad that you have this sunny look on what life has in store for you, broken promises and all. I faced a lot of broken promises as a child, and honestly, it made me stronger. It taught me not to have unreasonable expectations and also to have integrity by not breaking my promises–to mean what I say.

Keep up the good work. 😊

  4. Every piece of life’s ever-changing puzzle offers both positive and negative experiences. While one piece fits perfectly, another will never work. Tomorrow will share another opportunity.
