You Are Not Left Behind

on

You are not alone, I want you to know. With society setting the pace and everyone attempting to keep up, life can feel like a race. But what if I told you that slowing down is acceptable? You’re not going behind at all, because the route is just as important as the destination. Perhaps you’re evaluating yourself against others and feeling like you fall short. While you read through social media, you see your friends obtaining their ideal positions, getting engaged, purchasing homes, and having children. You feel as though you are still learning everything and that you are in a rut.

Nevertheless, what if I told you that each person’s experience is unique? that some individuals choose a straight path while others choose one that is winding? that some individuals achieve milestones sooner while others do so later? that everyone moves at their own pace and that it’s not a race? Maybe the pressure to succeed is making you feel overburdened. In order to achieve your goals, you put in a lot of work, push yourself to the limit, and put your physical and mental health at risk. You believe that if you don’t keep up with the competition, you’ll never succeed.

What if I told you, though, that success is about more than just accomplishments—also it’s about fulfilment? that your dreams don’t have to come at the expense of your health? that taking pauses, sleeping, and recharging is acceptable? that success is a combination of who you are and what you do? Perhaps you’re feeling disoriented and unclear of your goals or direction. Nothing appears to work out despite your attempts to take various routes and investigate new possibilities. You have the impression that you are walking aimlessly and without purpose.

But what if I told you that getting lost occasionally is okay? that sometimes the trip itself is the goal rather than the destination? that it’s acceptable to experiment, make errors, learn, and develop? that finding your way is a lifelong process rather than an event? I want to let anyone who feels like they are lagging behind know that they are not the only one. You are not falling short, lost, or falling behind. You are travelling on your own particular path and are exactly where you should be. You are sufficient in that you are strong and capable. Taking one step at a time, you will arrive at your destination.

“You have the impression that you are walking aimlessly and without purpose.” Perhaps that IS some people’s purpose. In which case, their joy/fulfillment consists of embracing and loving their purpose. This may be very difficult if judging remains a common reaction/response.

The more you go with the flow, the calmer and happier you’ll become. When you attempt to get things your way, you’ll be more stressed instead of letting things be as they are. Since you’re allowing things to come as they are, you appreciate the things and people around you better.

  2. Get out and meet people if you feel alone. Soon after meeting people you will be longing to be left alone. 🙂

Haha yes. We need an interval of being left alone as meeting people can be overwhelming.
