The key is to not just be ambitious but to be overambitious. In order to keep your sanity while doing this you must realize that it is ok to come up a little short. If your goal is to get a B in a course, then that is likely to be the best you’ll do. However, if you set out to get an A in a course and you end up with a B+ or A-, that’s still very respectable and you should be okay with that. It’s still much better than if you would have gone for the minimal goal.
Here are few tips on how to crush your goal :
- Determine Your Goal – What do you want to do and Why?
- Write It Down – Having your goals written down on paper has been shown that you’re more likely to succeed if you’ve taken the time to write down your goals.
- Define Your Why – Determine who you’re doing this for? If not for you, then chances are you’ll likely have a more difficult time reaching the finish line. Aligning your goals with your personal and professional priorities will give you a leg up in the race.
- Find Motivation – It’s not enough to simply want to meet a goal. You have to really want it. Tapping into what motivates you to achieve this particular goal is essential for success.
- Use Imagination – Envision your future self having accomplished your goal. What does that look and feel like. Channel that energy on difficult days when you can’t seem to get focused.
- Expect Obstacles – Life isn’t perfect, and no amount of planning can prepare you for crises, knowing how you’ll handle emergencies can keep you on the right path when the unexpected happens.
- Be Strategic – Setting several short-term goals can help make your to-do list seem more manageable. You are more likely to stay focused on goals that require short bursts of energy and time. Start with one week at a time and go from there.
- Seize the Days – Defining objectives such as day-to-day tasks will help prevent overwhelming feelings. You need to consider all the minute little things that go into making your efforts successful. Make lists, keep track and take notes.
- Enlist an Army – Gather your people and spread the word. You’ve got a goal! The more important the goal, the more help you need. Don’t be shy about sharing your vision with those who care about you. They believe in you and want to help.
- Set the Pace – Only you know how much time you have to dedicate to your goals and objectives. Don’t stretch yourself too thin. You risk burnout and loss of motivation if you don’t set boundaries.
My greatest human need is the need for growth, and so goals play an even more critical role in my life compared to the average person. If you’re a success junkie like me, then I suggest reading the tips in this article carefully if you want to compound your results and make the remainder of this year productive.
