DIY Perfume Recipe

One of the best reasons to create your own perfume is to have a custom blended fragrance that you adore that is also a toxic free perfume.  I was disappointed to find out that a few of my fragrance oils may likely have a mix of natural and synthetic ingredients.  The best natural fragrance ingredients are essential oils and resins.

Here is a quick DIY perfume recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp carrier oil (like jojoba, sweet almond, coconut or grape seed oil)
  • 6 tbsp 100-proof alcohol
  • 2.5 tbsp bottled water
  • 30 drops essential oils (9 drops top notes, 15 drops middle notes, 6 drops base notes)
  • 2 clean dark glass bottles with airtight lids
  • Coffee filter
  • Small funnel

Instructions

  • Pout the carrier oil into one of the bottles. Add your base, then middle, then top notes. Add the alcohol.
  • Sure the lid and let the perfume sit for 48 hours. The longer you leave it, the stronger the scent (you can leave it for up to 6 weeks).
  • Once you’re happy with the scent, add the water and shake vigorously for 1 minutes. Use the coffee filter and funnel to transfer your scent to the other bottle.

Pro Tips

  • If a scent is more powerful than the others, start by adding the others and slowly add your stringiest scent one drop at a time until you’re happy with the balance and the other scents haven’t been overwhelmed.
  • Find bottles that have spray bottle tops or the right sized neck to be fitted with a spray top to make application easy.
