Think about it this way: If you spend a good chunk of your day (an hour or so) just so everything is right, then that’s one hour spent on not producing actual work, and instead becomes a crutch that you use to delay the actual work you have to do. I’m never going to be the type who will get obsessive over not having matching pen sets or having my mouse pad be 3o off-center. However, I’ve been shown the virtues of organizing my life in order to produce better work and free up my mind for more creative endeavors. I’ve found that knowing where everything is, how everything works and how everything fits together in my life frees up room in my mind, my day, and improves my general well-being.

Here are a few tips to become more organised in life :

  • Write everything down.
  • Declutter your purse regularly.
  • Set a laundry day every week.
  • Start a planner.
  • Organise your closet.
  • Use containers to sort things in your drawers.
  • Always put on marching bed sheets.

    1. There’s no getting around it, the more cluttered your home is the more stress you feel. It’s a scientific fact. Yep, that’s right, according to an in-depth UCLA study involving thirty-two families people who lived in cluttered homes, those families experience higher levels of stress and depression. The study found that those who often refer to their homes with words like “not fun” and “very chaotic” were more likely to experience fatigue, depression, and higher cortisol levels. The “Cortisol data shows a link between verbal characterizations of[chronically messy, cluttered rooms or unfinished remodeling projects and higher stress level. On the other hand, those who characterize their homes as restful, restorative, or tidy had lower stress levels.

    1. Thank you Shreya for stopping by. Neatness and order support health — and oppose chaos. Regardless of the why, however, it’s clear that staying clean and organized is a good thing. It helps us feel better about ourselves, it keeps us productive and it may very well keep us physically fit. … We’ll feel much better when everything is organized.

  5. Agree must stay on top of email. I let mine balloon to 24k unread emails. I got through it all on vacation out of town. Never again!

    1. Woahhhh 24K emails. I hope some of them were SPAM 🙂
One of the most important benefits of organizing your space is reduced STRESS. Simply having a more efficient system to keep track of your papers and appointments can help minimize stress-influenced conditions such as depression, ulcers and heart disease. Likewise a cluttered environment is difficult to dust and clean.

    1. I agree with you Manisha. Disorganization and clutter have even been known to negatively impact your personal relationships. And you don’t have to look far to see the impact clutter has on your mental health. Your disorganization, unfinished projects, and piles of “to dos” may be contributing to your stress and depression.

    1. Thank you Maha. If everything has a “home” your house is organized. You will always know where to find things which means you save yourself the time and the headache of frantically searching for whatever is missing. You can apply this to anything. It may be that bills that are piled up and you then can’t find the bill because it’s lost in the pile of paperwork. Maybe it’s a receipt you can’t find for an item you want to return.
