As a society, one could argue that we have become too comfortable with turning a blind eye to the harsh realities that exist in the world around us.

People are too quick to dismiss the struggles of others as “not their problem,” believing that being unaffected is easier than getting involved. However, the truth is that by remaining apathetic, we are only perpetuating the problems that exist in the world.

There are countless examples of people and communities who are struggling in all corners of the globe. From poverty-stricken neighborhoods to refugee camps, from communities dealing with the effects of climate change to areas that have been ravaged by conflict and war. And yet, despite the clear evidence of the hardships these populations face, people often make the choice to turn a blind eye.

Part of the issue lies in the fact that the world is constantly bombarding us with information. From social media to news outlets, we are constantly inundated with messages about everything from politics to celebrity gossip. And while it’s important to stay informed, the sheer volume of this information can be overwhelming, leading many to tune out anything that doesn’t directly affect their own lives.

However, it’s important to realize that just because we’re not directly impacted by a issue doesn’t mean we shouldn’t care. In fact, this type of apathy only perpetuates the problem, allowing it to fester and grow worse. Moreover, when we fail to address the issues faced by individuals and communities around the world, we do ourselves a disservice. By ignoring these problems, we are missing out on opportunities to grow as a society, collectively working together towards a better future.

Another reason why people often turn a blind eye to what’s happening around us is that the issues faced by many communities can be overwhelming. The problems can seem insurmountable – what can one person possibly do to combat poverty, hunger, or a civil war thousands of miles away? But again, we must remember that every action has an impact, no matter how small it may seem.

Even something as simple as donating a few dollars to a cause you believe in or volunteering your time can make a difference in the lives of others. Moreover, by getting involved, we learn about the complexities of the world around us. We see that there are no easy solutions to the issues faced by many communities, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try.

In the end, the reality is that the world is full of challenges. From poverty and inequality to climate change and conflict, there are no shortage of issues that require our attention. But if we continue to turn a blind eye to these problems, we are only perpetuating the harm that has already been done. We must break free from our apathy and get involved, working together towards a future where everyone has the opportunity to live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. It won’t be easy, but it’s a challenge that must be faced head-on if we are to make the world a better place for generations to come.

  2. There is a difference (in my mind) between seeking to escape (problems) and knowing you are free. One sees the world in terms of problems/solutions, and the other sees it just as it is. Perhaps the latter is the “New Earth” we often hear about

    1. I think there’s a difference between trying to run away from problems and achieving inner freedom. The first approach is more common and involves seeing everything in terms of problems and solutions, while the second approach involves seeing the world as it really is. The idea of a “New Earth” offers simple solutions and encourages self-awareness and inner freedom. If we take responsibility for our lives and cultivate a mindset that’s free from fear and external biases, we can find a more fulfilling path.

  3. I have a different perspective on this. I think changing the world starts with helping yourself first. If we are physically, mentally, or emotionally unhealthy, we won’t really be of good help to anyone. There is nothing wrong or selfish about self-care. But yes, we do need to have compassion for others. Everyone faces adversity at some point. Unfortunately, one person cannot cure the larger problems of the world which you mentioned. I also think it depends on what part of the world a person lives in, as each country, region, community may face different issues. It’s probably more helpful to do something for our small communities and/or simply helping a neighbor. If each of us even just simply shows compassion by being there for one person, it could change the world.
