For many people, living with anxiety has become a daily struggle. It can overshadow every aspect of life, making it difficult to find joy and fulfillment. But what if you’re not an anxious person? Who are you when anxiety isn’t pulling the strings?

Before exploring this question, it’s important to acknowledge that everyone experiences anxiety at some point in their lives. It’s a natural human response to stress, and in small amounts, it can even be helpful. But when anxiety becomes chronic and overwhelming, it can obscure our true selves, making it difficult to know who we are without anxiety.

So if you were able to remove anxiety as a part of your identity, who would you be? Here are a few things to consider:

  1. You would likely feel more confident: Without the weight of anxiety dragging you down, you would have more mental and emotional space to feel confident in yourself and your abilities. You would be less likely to worry about how others perceive you and more able to engage with the world from a place of self-assurance.
  2. You would experience more freedom: Anxiety can be incredibly restrictive, holding you back from taking risks and stepping outside your comfort zone. Without those limiting beliefs, you would be able to take on new challenges, try new things, and explore the full range of what life has to offer.
  3. You would have greater clarity: Anxiety can make it difficult to see things clearly. By removing that lens from your perception, you would be able to think more objectively and make more rational decisions.
  4. Your relationships would improve: Living with anxiety can make it difficult to fully engage with others and build strong, genuine relationships. Without anxiety clouding your interactions, it’s likely that your relationships would become stronger and more fulfilling.
  5. You would find more meaning in life: When anxiety is running the show, it can be tough to find a sense of purpose or meaning in life. Without those anxious thoughts, your mind is free to explore what really matters to you and what brings you the greatest sense of joy and fulfillment.

In essence, removing anxiety as a defining aspect of your identity would likely lead to a fundamental shift in every area of your life. You would have more confidence, more freedom, greater clarity of thought, and be able to form deeper, more meaningful relationships. You would be more in touch with your own wants and needs, and have a greater sense of purpose and meaning in life.

While it may seem difficult to imagine life without anxiety, it’s important to remember that change can happen. With mindfulness practices, therapy, meditation and other inner work, it’s possible to overcome anxiety and become the person you truly are – strong, confident, and free to live life to the fullest.
